Yes... Hello sjscycle (Steve),
Good thinking
A No water CONDITION in the ice tray would tend to
POINT FAULT at the (ice-cube) water valve... but
The voltage for the valve comes from the
ice head..
If you can negotiate (fit a water bottle up into the
ice tray)... if the tray cycles & does not refill...
it is VERY LIKELY... If the part were more exotic
or expensive it might be WORTH the RISK of live
voltage testing... Personally I WON'T RECOMMEND
live testing...
The fitting appears to be the new (easy to use)
press type... Press white collar to RELEASE...
Press tube directly into valve...
SIMILAR to the new SHARK Bite solderless fittings now available in most hardware stores (nice & easy).
Watch the attached video... and decide for yourself.
Electric shock (if not fatal) is quite painful to most.
Let's watch the (2) videos (you will be happier).

You will notice... at no time did the word "Sears"
get recommended (same parts... ((get them elsewhere)..
Unless SEARS suddenly starts giving them away).
Hope MY OPINION helps.

I'm having the same problem and I've identified that the ice auger is no longer being turned by the rear drive coupling b/c the rear drive coupling is slipping on its axis or axel. There is a nut and some sort of metal clip there but I haven't figure out how to removed it yet. The water not coming from the door dispenser may be linked to the electronic valve in the bottom rear access panel area or possibly a blocked line. ID the valve by actuating the water dispenser and listen if you can hear the valve selenoid. You can remove the water lines at the valve to trouble shoot if the valve is opening. that way you can determine if it is a blocked line or just the valve or something else. [email protected]

It sounds like you have covered all the primary troubleshooting checks. There is only one thing I can think of at this point.
Check the voltage coming to the water valve during the icemaker cycle. The power to the valve is decreased by the resistence of the icemaker heater from 120 volts down to about 108 volts. It is not uncommon to have a valve that will open when you put 120 volts to it, as you do when you switch solenoids, but not open at the decreased voltage when it goes through the icemaker circuit.
If you are getting voltage to the valve when it cycles, and you know for sure the water line to the icemaker is clear, then you will need to replace the valve.
Post back and let me know what you find.

Sounds like you have a bad motor module on the icemaker. Part # is W10122536
SOURCE: ice dispenser in door clogged up or frozen
I would contact Hotpoint direct for this one. It sounds like a design fault to me.
What I think may be going on is that the cubes are melting too much, then refreezing lower down.
Set your freezer to -18, and the fridge to +2 and see if that changes things any.
Check seals in that area. Where is the moisture coming from to generate the frosting? - Is the location high in humidity?

To see how the auger goes back together, go the the Sears parts web site and put in your model number. It will show the parts list and a diagram. You may be able to print it out, Don't remember if there is a print option or not but if you have a screen capture program you could also.
