You turn the washer on and it fills over the top and doesn't stop filling..
I had the same problem. The laundry room was flooded. After running the diagnostic check on in the machine it could not find the problem. Although I went to the http://www.servicematters.com/maytag_library/html/index.html website and went through the troubleshooting table and turned the cold water valve on and off, numerous time. The valve leaked intermittently which is why some people couldn't reporduce the problem. This is a $5 solenoid that was sticking and it caused me to flood my home. I'm not impressed with Maytag's (Whirlpool) engineering. The sould have a safety shutoff valve independent to the water valve that is tripped closed when the level switch is activated. This unit was manufactured in Florence. The damn Italians must have build this cold water valve after a wine break!

I had the same problem. It sounds like the diverter valve is sticking open. Only way to fix it is to replace the valve. $20.00 part caused over $5000.00 worth of damage to my house. If you have hard water you may want to consider replacing this valve every couple years. Waiting until it fails could spell disaster.
Take off the back of the washer,,follow where the water hose goes into it..there is a square piece where both hot and cold hoses hook to..i needed to replace the cold water valve..this fixed my problem...
Your pressure switch may not be faulty take your lid off the pipe that goes into your pressure switch which should be located to the right handside blow into the pipe which should re-pressure rise it
I had the same problem with my Maytag Neptune. I replace the inlet watervalve and the problem was fixed.
The water level switch is not working ok, unplug the machine remove the top cover and check the thing hose conected to the water level switch check for broken , knock the water level switch with an screew driver and check if this give you positeve results, any way is better to replace it...good luck
The thin hose mentioned above often rubs itself against something and wears thin in one place and no longer holds air or has split at either end where it's pushed over it's plastic connection,, cut ends off for a fresh connection, blow into tube to see it's airtight, if not replace tube , it's cheap as chips.. it's rarely the vacuum pressure switch giving the drama, generally the thin hose conneced to it... p/s pull machine's elect plug out of power outlet first
I made the decision to get rid of this machine and obtained a new one courtesy of The Brick Warehouse. My repairman could not figure out what the problem was as he could not duplicate the problem. His advice was to get rid of it as it could not be trusted.
There is a level measuring switch which is essentially a plastic tank that either measures the level of the water (similar to a water level), or it measures air pressure as the water rises in the plastic tank. The plastic tank is external to the tub but is connected to the tub by a rubber hose. This device might be bad. It sends a signal to the electrically operated solenoid switches on the hot and cold water outlets. My guess is that is what is happening as the water level device would turn off both the hot and cold. Since it is only the hot water that is not turning off, it is probably due to an old and corroded or otherwise inoperative solenoid switch.
Same problem here. Best solution is to bring the washer to an open area preferably made of cement, tar, gravel etc. Fill with gasoline. Back up for safety. Toss a few zippos at it and then sit back and enjoy!
disassembly.

Will the water turn off if you hit the OFF buton on the console or pull the 120VAC power cord to the washer?
Issue could be a Stuck open Water Inlet Valve or improper signaling from the Pressure Switch for water fill in the wash tub.........**** dh1200s

I have a Maytag Neptune Washer FAV6800AWW. It worked fine for 4 years. My wife put in a load and came back in 1 hour and my laundry room was flooded which resulted in over 10000 dollars in damage to my basement ceiling and walls and carpet. . The Tech checked the machine out and advised there was no leaks and could not find anything wrong with it.
I have the same problem with a Matag Performa. I have done enough research that I feel that a problem with the water level switch is the culprit. I would like information on how to get to the tube and how to check it to see if the tube is the problem or if it is actually the switch.
I am replacing the water inlet valve today to try to correct same problem
