15 year old Slant fin boiler, Victory propane gas
fires then runs for about 30 seconds to a minute then shuts down only to start all over again, does this continously last few weeks. Help.
What could be the cause?
I need to be able to fix this as i live far from a boiler expert. I put a new intermitant module on but never changed a thing still fires then shuts down then fires again within seconds and does this regularly Someone must have some idea without telling me to get an engineer. The flame sensor, which is located in front of one of the burner flames is probably oxidized and needs cleaning or replacement. If the unit can't "sense" the flame, it will continue to cycle.
It could be dyslexia, but I think you want to know what may be wrong with your boiler in this case! This is a VERY old design. The diaphragm is on the water section, this operates a switch to turn ON the pump, and a further device causes the diverter valve to divert boiler water from CH duty to HW duty. From your description it appears that the boiler is shutting down on internal boiler water temperature (too high), your 'briefly too hot' HW symptom may be caused either by the boiler side of the secondary heat exchanger being blocked/caked in sludge, OR the DHW side of it being scaled. Either way a new or replacement (descaled) secondary heat exchanger MAY inprove things. It's not easy on these old clunk-pots, and EVERY disturbed seal will subsequently leak, so get a good supply of o-rings and fibre seals before you start ("you" being the competant fitter you employ)
Check the 94282000 cartridge for debris on the filters. If your boiler requires a certain flow rate to come on, then you must get enough flow through the cartridge to make that happen. Also, if your boiler is producing very hot water, the cartridge will self regulate and reduce the hot flow accordingly. try lowering the output temperature of the boiler to resolve that possibility.

HAD A similiar problem last week with a customer who had just installed a pool and running off of propane tank for gouse as well... he let tank go empty and started having problems ..what we ended up finding is that not only was his regulator on tank bad he needed a additional regulator to regulate the different psi pressure to the appliances... get them to check your regulator out
its most likely dirt/rust in your burner assy , but as its 15 year old and propane do your self a favour and get it inspected by a registered gas/propane engineer .
ive witnessed propane explosions at first hand and they are scary
