Kenmore 80 Series - water wont fill to full load

I have a kenmore 80 series washer model 909964 ( # on the lid of washer). It is about 9 years old and just recently started having this problem. It has a variable setting for the size of the load and now when you set it to the full load capacity it only fills about half full with water...it works but you can only fill it half full and takes twice as long to wash. Is there an easy fix. My husbands resolution is to "go get a new one"..Its been a reall good washer with the large capcity to wash large comfortors and rugs and really dont want to replace if i dont have to

I have aseries 8o from Kenmore as well we have a water sensor problem as well but ours just won't syop filling. We tested the sensor and it appears to be functional so we want to check the air hose that connects to it for tears or clogs. How to we access where it connects to the tub?

Remove edge decore trims from left and right side front of control panelKenmore 80 Series - water wont fill to full load - 8b608f8.jpg
remove phillips screws from bottom corners of contol panel
remove knob from water level selector
raise control panel ~1 inch then flip over backwords on pivots
depress lock tab on right/underside of water level control body where it touches metal mount plate
rotate water level control body 45deg anti clockwise
pull body off
top side of body next to knob shaft is 1/8 hex head bolt
turn clockwise to rais water level
anticlockwise to lower water level
machine can be operated with this part not fitted so can check level. fill, adjust screw, fill will start again, adjust screw, until water level is correct
reinstall in reverse order
Incidentally, the cause is a VERY small wire spring inside the control body that is not really up to the task, and stretches over years.
Its a common occurrence, and I make this repair, on callouts, no parts required, couple times a month you may have to flip the switch to reset to get the water to restart filling

Kenmore series 80 model 110 wont stop filling!

There is a clear plastic hose that runs from the load selection switch to the side of the washer drum. This hose connects the fill sensor to the load switch. without it being in good condition and connected properly the washer won,t get a signal that it's full.

I have a 9 year old kenmore washer that just stops

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

Kenmore washer 80 series 110 model not spinning.

unless your washer is over 20 years old, then it wont have a belt. the temperature of the water wont have anything to do with it spinning or not.
need to know if it agitates or drains and just wont spin.
if it agitates but no spin or drain, then you have a bad lid switch.
if it wont agitate or spin, but will drain, then you have a broken drive coupling.

Kenmore washer 80 series

you need to check the lid switch, does it click. you can unplug and then remove the 2 screws to see it, if it looks like it is coming apart then the lid switch is bad. you can buy one for about $40 or so dollars. i am assuming it doesn't spin either.

Kenmore 80 Series will not fill up with water

if your washer will agitate when set to fill but not fill, then your pressure switch is bad.
also you may want to check and see if you are getting both hot and cold to your washer.
