I also have this model and it took me a long time to find the solution. It turns out this model is actually an LG.
If you use the instructions for an lg-6000, it worked for me.
Here is a thread I found on another site:

I found a website (http://lgregionfree.tripod.com/) that has a different CD image for LG 6000 series players. I tried that and it works, my player is now set to region 0 and has played region 1, 2 and 4 discs.

Here is the process:

1) Download http://lgregionfree.tripod.com/6000.zip

2) Extract the ZIP file, which contains a Readme file and a directory named RMTM0000

3) Using a CD burning program, burn the RMTM0000 directory to a CDR, making sure to use the ISO9660 file system instead of the default Joliet. Finalize the disc.

3) Turn on the player and insert the disc. The Region Test Menu screen should appear.

4) On the remote, press your desired region (or 0 for regionfree), then press Enter then Pause.

5) Eject the CDR and turn the player off.

6) Turn the player back on and enjoy.

NOTES:

a) I did not need to wait a minute between region selection and pause.

b) On some players this hack causes the buttons on the player itself (not the remote) to stop working. I can confirm that on the XBV443 the player buttons continue to work.

3) Options will be available to be selected. Select 0 using up/down on remote.
4) Player is now region free.

Apparently they are locked to region 4 and I have bought region 1 DVDs so they won't play

In most models the unit cannot converted to multi-regions.So it will play only in the specified region in which it is applicable to.But in some unit models there is a procedure to turn the unit to multi region so it can play all region dvd.On all models the procedure to convert the unit to multi region is different. As you have not mentioned the exact model number of your unit.t will not be easy to give exact details. If in case there is a procedure to convert your unit to multi region.

Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Mistracking on dvd player

Hello!

It turns out there is a problem using hdmi cables with integrated amplifiers Denon dvd players (the 1940 series) - the hdmi cable processes the visual signal before the audio signal. Therefore there is what appears to be a lip syncing problem because there is a short 'time delay' between the visual and audio signals. I would advise anyone to simply use an AV reciever as they incorporate time delay technology so the visual and audio signals are in perfect sync. Luckily, Richer Sounds, where I bought the intergrated amp gave me a full refund, no quibbles or hassle. I would like to add I am unsure if the problem lies with just the Denon 1940 hdmi dvd players and intergrated amps or ALL hdmi players. Also, I was trying to achieve a simple 2 speaker set up with the amp.

The forum on What Hi-Fi document this problem with much better clarity and technical explanation that my understanding of the problem. However, the lesson learned is, if you want any speaker set up with your dvd player, use a dedicated AV reciever.

Best Regards, Graeme Young.
