Yes, it is fixable. The way to fix it is to do the X-Clamp Fix on the mainboard first. Then right after, if it still doesn't work, you should do the Heatgun fix afterwards. The Heatgun fix is where you heat up the mainboard to fix broken solder-joints. You should use a circular motion and not keep heating up the same area for too long, or else it'll damage the mainboard even further. Good luck.

DO NOT OPEN YOUR XBOX 360 CONSOLE! Microsoft will fix
it for free with free shipping. Takes about 2 weeks. There is video and different
ways to fix it online but it will happen again with those half baked solutions. Sometimes 1 week sometimes 6 months but it always happens again. Also, Microsoft adds another year to your warranty and a card to a free month to xbox live.

3 red lights on the Xbox 360 is the most common error and it means "General Hardware failure. To fix this you need to stop the amount of heat that the GPU and the CPU is taking.
To do this you can use the recommended guide that has been on the market for 3 years or you can send it in.
The other issue you mention will be the GPU overheating you need to stop the heat build up getting to the chips.
Bad very bad.
It's bad solder connections under the G.P.U.
Trust me I know, I re-flow about 2-3 a day .
but the units are normally about 2 1/2 -3 years old
and 60% are Microsoft reworks. you can tell this by
a black dot on the safety seal .
You have 2 options Fix it you self , if done right you should
get 2-9 months sometimes more.
Or have a shop re-flow the G.P.U. . cost 80.00 or so.
you should get 3-12 month hard to say with these unit.
Hello Snarker it sounds like you have a bad AV cable, try replacing it with a different one( It will costs $5-10). If there is still a problem try removing your HDD ( the hard drive which is removed from the top of your xbox 360). If neither of those seem to fix your screen's issue, you may have an internal device that has overheated or come loose, I would recommend try leaving your xbox on and see if red rings appear on your console Like this(they might be in a different idea I am just letting you know where to look) . If they do you can send your xbox back to Microsoft wait 2-4 weeks and get it back for free.
I hope that helped and if you need anymore assistance please let me know.
