Hi. I have a Whirlpool 6th sense front loader 11kg washing machine (AWM 1008). After some very cold weather I now have an error code of FA. Do you know what this means and what I need to do? Thanks

Solution from a previous post i found for you.
The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.

  • Check wire harness connections between the Drive Motor/Tachometer and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check the Drive Motor
  • Check the MCU
  • Check the Wire Harness
Most of the solutions i found for this same error were very similar. If all else fails read the manual or get a new washer when possible.

SOURCE: F9/FA Whirlpool 6th sense frontloader washer

F09 is "overflow failure" - check drain pump, pressure switch, blocked drain.
FA is the emergency shutoff switch that detects when water is pooling underneath the machine.

Hello Janine Gooch,

Went out on our internet trying to find your trouble shooting guide (typically in the OWNERS MANUAL)...

Finally ended up in AU ... No luck.
(September 9th is only 6 hours old here (SF Bay area)).

Your local peers have NOTHING NICE to say about that machine... particularly the CONTROL BOARD:

I have a whirlpool awm 8121 6th sense front loader. when i select the cycle, usually rapid, and press the start button the machine commences to fill with water. when it comes time for the actual washing...

If your machine is reasonably old, perhaps take a look at the bushes of the motor . Before that, take the manual and run the test cycles by following the instructions; it might provide you with answers

My Whirlpool 6th sense washer displayed f09 so I left it. next day it seemed OK but does part of the wash and comes up with FA

Thank you for your response. I finally managed to contact someone at Whirlpool who advised that the error code FA indicates a component problem and may require a replacement part. Unfortunately a serviceman is required.
