It plays only cd not dvd - Denon S-301

maybe your dvd player will not play regular CD only dvd formats

You can't. The Laser will only Play +R & +RW.

Non-playable discs

• CD-R* • CD-ROM • PHOTO CD • CD-RW*

* Audio formatted CD-R and CD-RW can be played.

• Playing back discs list as "Non-playable discs" above may
generate noise and damage speakers.

Control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select no _ for your specific area

Does the DVD work in other DVD drives?

does this drive tray front show this?. step1, page 33 in your manual
shows this. this is first, never last. it is NOW.

change the lens of DVD. its a common problem. due to over use.

Basic Information:

i) try to choose  right burner for eg: Nero CD/DVD Burner

ii) try to choose the right format,

     for eg: MP3/MP4/ Audio Songs will come under Audio format
               in such case select "Audio CD/DVD format" in Nero CD/DVD Burner


     for eg: .DAT/MPEG/MP4/Video will come under Video format

                in such case select "Video CD/DVD format" in Nero CD/DVD Burner


     for eg: "DATA CD format" is only storing some data on CD/DVD iresspective whether it is                            Videofile or Audio file, 

                these "DATA CD formated" CD/DVD when played in DVD Player will play only Audio files 
                but no Video Files 

   
   

Inside the Control Panels, look for System. Double-click System and choose Device Manager. Inside Device Manager, find the CD/DVD and "Uninstall" the device. Restart the computer and let it re-load the driver. This might help. You can also try a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner.

DVD players will play CD's and MUSIC CD-R's. Some will play MP3's IF the unit is so designed. You would see the 'MP3' logo on the front.
