if you go into your channel map (the area in your setup menu where you can add
or delete channels from appearing when you channel surf) the tv does NOT save
your channel map settings once you turn your tv off. this can become EXTREMELY
annoying if you have channels you don't want to surf through or have analog
channels that don't come in well. i have to go to this menu every time i turn on
the tv before i start watching, and delete all the channels i don't want to see
before i start channel surfing. and then once i turn the tv off and turn it back
on, you have to repeat the process again. it is sad that i have gotten extremely
quick at doing this since it is not something you should have to deal with on a
    daily basis

    2. another function that does
not save your settings on the tv is the delta volume setting in the sounds menu.
if you have channels that are at different volumes, this setting is supposed to
allow you t oadjust each channel's volume seperately so that when you surf, you
don't come across one channel that is whisper quiet while the next channel is
extremely loud. this is extremly apparent when switching between inputs, and
also between analog channels and digital channels. the most annoying part about
it not saving this feature is that once you set the delta volume and change the
channel, the setting GETS RESET TO ZERO! it renders this feature useless if it
does not save right when you change a channel. what is the point of this feature
then? why not just use the regular volume control?

    3. once in a while, the tv will stop working. i have had it for
3 months, and sometimes i change the channel and all of a sudden the tv screen
goes black. it seems to freeze up. you can't turn it off, change the channel or
anything like that. you can't even turn it off by pressing the power button on
the actual tv, you have to unplug the power chord, and then plug it back in and
turn the tv back on and then it functions normally again

Its the problem in the power supply board of your tv.

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2008

any of the IC or the capacitor has got loosed on the power supply board.remove the board and check it out.and if every thing seems proper then just cold solder whole board and it will be proper.as the soldering joints are getting loosed after some time .so cold soldering will help.

I turn my tv on the picture and sound all work and after about 20min the picture goes to a black screen and I still have my sound. I turned the tv off wait about 5 min turn it back on the picture come on...

If you have electronics experience - check the power supply and make sure you are getting the correct voltage to your inverter boards and main av board - also do you see any movement on the screen take a flashlight and shine on the screen - if you can see a dark image on the screen check inverter boards and power first.

My 42in Vizio LCD has sound but no picture. Screen starts blue when it turns on then goes to black with only sound.

Make sure in the back of the TV the "picture cords" or A/V cables are properly fitted.... Hope this helps :)

When tv is turned on picture flickers really

When it goes black can you see a ghost image? It will be a normal tv picture but very faint black and white looking, you may have to get close and look at an angle to even see it. If so that means your backlight system is failing. If you don;t see an image then it is a problem with the power section of the board inside the tv.

Check if it is covered by warrenty and get a quote if it isn't. A 42 inch is new and big enough that it should still be worth repairing but it may cost you anywhere from $100 to $250 depending on the shop to fix.

TV has gone into "protect mode" to do just that to protect against the damaging failure that has been detected, you will need a servicer to diagnose the failure. Good luck and Merry Christmas!
