Open the case and see if there is a cable from the sound port that is not plugged in.

Look in the bios or system setup and see if there are settings to turn the headset or front ports on. Reboot your computer and watch the screen to see which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. You have to hit that key when you see the message otherwise it won't work and you will have to reboot.

Check your Audio Properties to see if there are settings that need to be set for the headset. Click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound. You can also click on the megaphone at the bottom right near the time.

You can always try reinstalling the Audio Drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.

First find if the port you are connecting to is working properly.
Secondly if the port is working properly then I guess you will have to play around with some software settings of your Sound Driver.
