I assume this is a lamp problem, the timing is right (2 years old), but there were no warning signs. No dimming, no messages. Just watching TV fine, then the screen goes black and we only have audio. Turn it off and back on and it wont start up. Green power light blinks repeatedly for 30 seconds (or so) then the red Lamp light blinks forever. Tried unplugging, tried taking out the lamp (no signs of damage that I can tell on the lamp) and re-seating it.
I have an extended warranty, but it doesn't cover lamps so I want to be sure before I order one.
If the lamp light is lit, it is likely a bad lamp. If you remove the lamp from the set, you will either see shards of glass in the housing and/or a very cloudy reflector (it should look like a mirror). Be sure to use an original Sony lamp as the replacements are trouble makers. Please be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
My personal experience with aftermarket lamps has been that either the customer complains that the lamp only lasted a couple of months or that the picture isn't as bright as it was with an original lamp. I have heard horror stories from other techs about aftermarket lamps taking out lamp ballast/lamp drivers and even causing a set not to turn on.

It was the lamp... when I looked close at the bulb, the filament had a break in it. Can you tell me more about the problems that OEM lamps can cause? I opted for OEM because I could get it faster, but I may order a sony lamp online and just keep this OEM for an extra.
