Canon Power Shot S1 IS

A few weeks ago when I was videoing my grand daughter my Canon Power Shot S1 IS screen all of a sudden had lines going across and then went black. I turned it off, on etc. and it stayed black. I could view pictures I had taken but looking at the screen or through the view finder it was black with lines moving across. I put in new batteries and for some reason it worked.

I didn't have problems for a while then last night it happened again while taking pictures. The screen went black with white moving lines. You can still view pictures taken but if you take a picture it looks just like the screen is looking, black. I tried everything I could think of and new batteries. All of a sudden it started working again this morning.

Have you seen this happen before? I really love this camera!

Image Sensor Problem

Does the black line record on the tape? When you play back on a TV/Computer can you still see the black line. If you do that would be the image sensor.
Good luck!!

Camera just stop working

Email Canon with your problem. I had a Canon S1 IS camera. It failed on me in June 2008. It started to display lines across the Lcd screen intermittently, until a week later it completely failed. It would turn on but no display on screen when switched to camera mode.
I emailed Canon and they replied to send it to them and if it was a malfunction with the camera they would repaired it free of charge. I sent the camera to Canon ( Canada) and 2 weeks later they sent me a new S5 IS because the faulty ccd image board was on back order. I am very happy with Canon and would continue to purchase Canon products because of their customer service ....they seem to stand by their products.

My pictures and the lcd screen come out blurry and pink, with horizontal lines across

What model camera do you have? A few years ago a large number of defective Sony CCD's were installed in many cameras from several vendors. The CCD's eventually deteriorate to produce the effects that you're seeing. If your camera is a Canon, there's a very good chance that Canon will fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Digital Camera Malfunction

mine just started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I had downloaded pixes to the computer, went outside to take picture and it started acting up. strange lines appear on the screen, but the codes are all there, and you can view the pictures that are on the card. no, the card is not full, the batteries are fine. I think it has a virus built in to start trouble so we will go buy a new one!

Horizontal Lines after-photo.

Hi, I don't know if this is going to be your problem, but recently the Canon anounced a recall for Canon S1 IS, due CCD problems. Most people with this problem complains of lines on the image, or the image going completely black. Some are having their CCD changed, but most of the users are having their S1 replaced for a brand new S3. Contact the Canon Technical Support, and maybe you get a S3 for free...
