Have a problem where MSAccess brings up memory errors when a Projector is connected to the external vga port. i.e. connect and power on projector, power on T42, start MSAccess. error reads 'A system error occured or there isn't enough free memory to start Access'. OS = Win2000, Office version = 2000 w/SP3. No problems with other Office apps. Problem does not occur if projector is turned off when T42 is powered on. Have tried three different T4x series laptops and many cables.
That could be a video card driver issue. It seems that when the projector is connected, windows detects it a create another screen using up more memory. Try download a latest video card driver for your laptop http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/1rd635ww.exe
this is for Windows 200/XP for the IBM Thinkpad T42. If that doesn't work then you should also try updating your operating system.
Hope that helps!

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8
The Acer One netbook has a mini-VGA port on its left side. Page 10 of Acer's QuickGuide shows the port as item 3 External display (VGA) port. But unfortunately, the description shown for it is incorrect.
From your description, your projector's lead likely has a mini-VGA connector on the end as pictured. The connector can simply be plugged into the mini-VGA port but there are no holes beside the port for screws so it would just be a friction fit which should be sufficiently secure for most puposes. The connector and port are mini-DB 15 male and female respectively and can only fit one-way. The port has the wide side of the D on top so you would have to turn the pictured connector over to be able to plug it into the port. Windows XP should be able to detect the projector via plug-and-play installing any display drivers if required. Page 8 of Acer's UserGuide describes Hotkey + Display toggle which switches display output between the display screen, external monitor (if connected) and both. Pressing + with the projector plugged in will bring up a window in the middle of the screen allowing the selection of internal display, external display, both, or a 800x600 VGA projector. If the display is on the projector, unplugging the cable should automatically revert display back to the internal screen. For VGA see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector
what are your options on the projector side? Your Mac comes with a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) port.
Attach the DVI to VGA adapter to the VGA connector of the external monitor.
depending on the external monitor/projector, you may need different adapters.
If your LCD or DLP projector displays no image, this could be a variety of problems. First, check that the projector has power. On the top of the LCD or DLP projector should be some lights. With power, those lights will be on. If it has power, check to make sure that the projector lamp is firing. If so, go to the source. Make sure that it is connected with a VGA cable or USB cable to your computer, or with an RGB cable, S-Video cable or DVI connection to your VCR/DVD Player. From a laptop computer, the VGA cable should be connected to the VGA out connection, and into the VGA in connection on the projector. Are both ends tight?
If everything has checked out so far, the solution probably lies with the external monitor port. Check this by holding the Fn key on the keyboard, then press the F7 key. (On some computers, the key might be F5 or F3. Try these if F7 doesn't work) Each time you press the Fn / F7 combination, you will cycle your display through the following settings:
* Press Fn / F7 once: The laptop screen only * Press Fn / F7 twice: The projector port only * Press Fn / F7 three times: Both the laptop and projector port * Wait a few seconds after each time you press the key combination to let the LCD or DLP projector refresh. Nine times out of ten this will result in seeing your projected image.
The Aspire One has an external VGA port so you will use that and a VGA cable to connect to the projector. You may have to press the Display mode button (typically Fn+one of the function keys with the rectangle 'display' on it) to enable the external VGA port.
Try connecting another monitor to the computer to verify the external VGA connector is working correctly. Once you know the external VGA port is displaying an image, connect the projector and make sure to set it for the proper input. If there is still a problem, you might have a bad connecting cable or the projector needs service.
If your dell is equipped to do this it is on the back side and appears as a video card connector or s-Video out. It is possible that your Dell is not equipped to make this connection, I have found a few that are not.
