Vizio E422VA 42 in LCD television power light blinks

  • Anonymous Jan 02, 2017

Remove all input devices to the TV. Unplug the TV for about 2 to 3 minutes. Plug in only rhe tv power cable. Turn on the TV. Select Menu button, connect to wiFi. If you are able to get wifi connected or even to the menu, reconnect cable tv hdmi to hdmi port #1.

Your power board could be defective. If there is no back light try shining a flash light against the screen to see if you can see an image. If there is no image then your T-con board could also be defective.

SOURCE: 42" Vizio - no picture no sound

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

SOURCE: vizio 42" lcd powers up with sound only - no picture

It sounds to me that the unit has a faulty inverter board which could be due to an overheated/bulged capacitor. I would send in a claim on it to the factory if it is still under warranty.

SOURCE: no picture on vizio 42

There are several boards that can cause what you describe. Can you bring up the menu? If so that will help in the process of elimination. Is there sound? What is the model number? Have you unplugged the set for a few minutes? If you are trying to decide whether to repair or replace. If any of the boards need replacing 250.00 to 500.00 for a shop repair.

SOURCE: Vizio 42 in TV LCD HDTV white line across to of

That white line (usually jagged) is actuallly part of the transmitted picture. However, you are not intended to see it because it is located in what is known as the 5% overscan area. Your TVs today are more than just cable ready... they are a versital, technology filled multimedia display. You can see that line because the screen size or wide mode you are using is intended for 1080p/24 signals. You have 0% overscan with this screen size setting. This allows you to see ALL of the picture, including portions of the picture the broadcaster did not intend for you to see. You can change your screen size using the Wide feature in the Setup menu. See pg.62 of your user manual for details and descriptions of the various wide modes.

No sound no screen. power light is steady, NOT blinking, then blinks 18 times and light is steady again. keeps repeating this action..

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

I broke my Vizio 42inch E422VA screen. Can I have it replaced?

Yes but the cost to replace it will exceed the cost of a new set. I wish I would have come across your post earlier. I just sold a E422VA parts tv for $171 shipped with a mint LCD screen !!! your best bet would be to part it out. Either throw it on Ebay or try to sell it locally on Craigslist.
