I have an HD52W59 (ITC222 chassis) and it stays in 4:3 format. I am using a antenna to receive digital signal.
However, the PBS channels are in Cinerama format, while all the main channels (ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS) are all in 4:3 format. I hit the "Format" button on the remote, and it shows the "4:3" format on the top left of the screen, but disappears right away. The only time I can see the "4:3" displayed in the top left corner is when I change channels and hit the "Format" button right away. Otherwise, it does nothing.
I did want to mention that I re-soldered the solder joints on the flyback transformer and replaced the FL231 fusible link because of convergence/pincushion issues. However, as I was trying to remove the deflection board, I could not figure out how to remove the two ribbons from the board (connects to SSB) and tugged on the ribbons by accident. None of the pins were removed from the connector, but I am wondering if it was enough to cause the pins to wiggle loose from the connector.
Any help is much appreciated!

Arynsunn,
Thanks to you, I was able to find the solution to my problem.
Have you tried using the correct Fusible Link? I noticed in another post that you said you replaced it with a 500ma instead of the 400ma. I had the same original problem as you and found the exact fuseible links at www.mouser.com. Part# 576-3960400000 Littelfuse Fuses - A 125V UL TL LL .400A . They are only 55 cents plus shipping. I bought 5 for under $10 shipped. Only took 2 days to get them. My TV works like a charm now! I too thought I may need to replace the IC's but thankfully my TV is working fine. If you did need to replace them, where were they located? I couldn't find any stk IC's inside either and the IC's on the heat sinks are all small. Just trying to be proactive, in case I ever need to replace them.

no the board that has the FL231 on is the ITC222 deflection board. The other board is above the chassis in a seperate frame that runs across the set the convergence power supply is the board on the left above the board where the fL231 is. Yes the ITC222 and ITC222A are the same chassis. As for the service manual that site should have the service manual under the thomson category as the ITC 222 chassis is actually a thomson chassis made for RCA.

Go to the R/G CRT boards at end of neck of picture tubes resolder socket pinns and Video ICs on the board.
SOURCE: how do I replace the FL231 fuse on the circuit
Yes, but before powering the set back on you must fix the original issue that caused it to open. The high voltage transformer location LL008 will need to be un-soldered and all pins and pads cleaned. Then re solder the pins to the pads with solder. The original solder was lead free but it tended to crack after it heated up thus causing the intermittent connection and then opening the 400ma fuse to the convergence panel. The fuse is no longer available, but I have included a link to be able to purchase it on ebay. Make sure you ONLY use the size fuse needed as anything higher could be a fire hazard. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...
