My Vizio e500i-a1 hdmi ports were only showing black and white screens. Cable box, ps4, Switch etc. TV menu and TV Netflix had color. I tried everything just short of ordering replacement parts. Basically, how I fixed mine, is I took the back off of the TV (way too many screws) found the motherboard connected to the hdmi ports. Unplugged everything, used some air in a can to get rid of any dust, and replugged them all back into the corresponding plugs. I noticed one of the plugs was slightly loose while unplugging. I think that was the issue. Plugged in the power cord and cable box. Tested the TV and BAM she was working in full color again. Pretty easy fix just time consuming with the amount of screws on the back of the TV.
It could be your flux capacitor is out. you might need to plug it in goto menus and check to see if ur runnin 21 gigawatts if not leave it plugged in and off for two days and it should refresh it

I had the same thing just happen and I used the following instructions from the Vizio Website for "humming sound" on tv and it worked. My sound is now working!!!!
1- Power off TV
2- Unplug TV from outlet
3- Press and hold in the power button on the TV for 30 seconds (while it is unplugged from the wall)
4- Release the power button
5- Plug in the TV into a different outlet
6- Power the TV back on.
Reset the TV settings.

The 37" Vizio I just bought has a very confusing feature where the same input can be used as either the Y channel of the component or the full video channel for composite. If you plug a component source into the TV and then select the composite input ("AV" on the remote), you will see a black and white version of the full component signal (makes sense as the Y channel is just the luminance component). As sad as it is, I was stumped by this for a while until I happened to hit "COMP" and got full color. FWIW, the manual warns about this, but it really doesn't emphasize the point. I wonder how many returns they get because of this.

Look through the ventilation slits at the back of the TV with the room lights out. If you do not see white light light bleeding through the back, you have a back light failure. It could be the inverter circuit which lights up the CCFL ( cold cathode fluorescent lamp ). You will need professional help to replace it and could cost you about 70 to 100 $ to fix.

possibly is the main board.

Hi There are three things that can cause this problem. Your lcd screen, t-con board or the signal board. Most likelly in your case since you say it's only half the screen it's going to be your t-con board. You can try removing it and cleaning all the contacts and replacing it see if that helps. If that doesn't help then replace it. If that does not solve it then it's going to be your screen.
You can get parts at www.interliquidparts.com

I was surprised how easy the solution. My Visio has an A/V and a Component input selection. If you choose A/V then the single yellow video connector on the green input (the way it is depicted in the manual) will give you color. If you choose Component input, then the same single yellow video connector on the green input will give you black and white picture.
My vizio tv also runs in black and white in all input modes. But menu and other setting options are in usual colour.
Ditto, help, I need a solution!
