Copleland scroll compressor failure

I have a heat pump system with a copeland scroll compressor. 1st copeland compresoor ran for 4 year and failed. My second copeland compressor just failed after 3 years. It's in a Goodman CPLT36 condensing unit. I've also lost my defrost timer circuit board and condensing fan.
I really don't use the ac part. Just the heatpump as the unit is installed on the coast.
I have good slope for oil return. System seems to be charged properly.
Any ideas as to why I keep lossing compressors?

I do not know if it matters or not. The issue with both compressors is a short in the winding. Do you still think I would have burnout residue in the refrigerant. Last time I replaced the compressor, I pulled a vacuum for 24 hours.

Is that adequate or should I pull longer.

I also installed a new moisture seperator and will again this time.

I already have the compressor so I won't be changing to 410A this go.

    Any other advice?

If you had a burnout the residual oil in the system will eat away at the insulation of the windings, causing premature failure. You will need to check the ph of your oil.

Make sure ALL moisture and noncondensables are evacuated while the system is down.I would have the line flushed to remove all remnants of burnout.Actually with the age of the unit and amount that needs repaired I would change the unit out to a 410a system and start over.

I would treat it as a burnout as a precautionary measure. The length of time you pull a vac isnt really relevant. How deep of a vac did you pull in micron?I like it to be able to hold 300 for 10 minutes.Besides that....looks like you're on the right track....goodluck!

Package heat pump problem.

the gauge not changing and the pipes not sweating indicates the compressor is not pumping gas
I suggest that you call in an ac specialist to properly diagnose the problem and get a quote to repair

I have a goodman unit with a copeland compressor Its in Montana and I only ran it three time since the install. Some times it starts right away and sometimes it try's three or four time before...

When you say Montana the first thing I thought was, does it have a crank case heater? Is it actually working? May need a start cap installed, need to check amps at start up, possibly nearing locked rotor. Fan works every time?

Goodman ck36 1b a/c. Capacitor replaced 2 years ago. Unit is 13 years old and thermostat is Honeywell, also 13 years old. This summer there seems to be a 3-5 min delay (from when thermostat registers call)...

If you have a AC unit with electric or gas its doing what its supposed to do, let the pressures in the system equilize before starting again, If you have a heat pump its doing it there as well you just have not noticed. Anti cycling is a good thing, 4 to 5 minutes is normal.

Multi-Compressor Failures
1st time a compressor fails the service tech is suppose to determine the cause of the
Failure and fix it. Is it no oil return or oil being washed out of compressor do to low sump superheat,
liquid slugging do to thermostatic expansion valve or orifice flooding compressor, starving
for refrigerant do to thermostatic expansion valve or orifice not supplying enough refrigerant to keep the compressor cool, or is the reversing valve shifting properly or electrical, such as bad defrost board, capacitor, relay or electric component or connection, etc.
With multi-compressor failures until you determine the cause and fix it you will keep having this problem
And when a heat pump compressor fails if it’s a burn out, such as electric short or long running at high temperatures and pressures or low on refrigerant level not enough cooling back to the compressor, Causing the refrigerant to break down and create an acid. You need to check the oil in the bad compressor to see if there’s acid in it, then replace the compressor, reversing valve, accumulator (the oil and contaminents will accumulate here and you can‘t get it out), thermostatic expansion valve or orifice, liquid drier, suction line filter drier (if it’s on the lineset outside of the unit then you need to put it inside the unit as close to the compressor as possible).
And after running the system for a couple of days, then the liquid drier and suction filter should be replaced again, depending on how bad the burnt out was or if there‘s acid still in the system you might need to replace them again.
It’s hard to say who would be responsible but there’s something other than the compressor causing the problem and you need to find out what it is.
