hi sir..There's a formatting option available during the install. Just boot from the Vista CD and select the partition where the old installation is. Windows will do the formatting for you. if you don't have vista you can download it from the following site and then boot your system

Well unfortunitly on this issue your going to have to choose what operating system you want to use hence you upgraded your bios with vista. #1 never do that. #2 go to the manufacture site download the bios frimware and flash it again.

make sure your computer has not over heated. place your computer on a flat surface where air can circulate properly and restart installing the operating system.

HP Compaq Presario 700 series was originally designed for XP and Vista, therefore you can install XP on it.

After installing Windows XP, you will need to install all drivers.

You can download drivers and software for your laptop from HP here.

you need to have internet connection first then go to the website http://www.windowsupdate.com and you need to update the operating system from that site. in the process of updating it there will be an option there to update it to service pack 2 already.. sometimes you need to update other things first in the same website before that option comes up.
