Unfortunately, the iPhone does not work with contacts saved on your SIM. You need to use the Pam Desktop to move your old contacts to your PC. Then, use iTunes to sync back your Windows Contacts with your new iPhone. If you don't want to use iTunes, you can use a more direct way to copy iPhone contacts directly to the iPhone.

SOURCE: can't read sim contacts

iPhone | Importing Contacts From Your SIM Card
20071231024047278_1.jpg One of the frustrating features that's commonly available on most cell phones that the iPhone lacks, is the ability to import your contacts directly off your SIM card.

The good news is, that has now been overcome, thanks to the developers of SimPort. A third party application that allows you to import contacts directly off your SIM card. Of course, there's a caveat. There always is...

First off, you'll need a jail broken iPhone and the App Tapp Installer app already installed on your iPhone. Turn on your iPhone and make sure its connected to a working WiFi network that has Internet connectivity.

By default the Installer app doesn't have the necessary Source link in the Sources list. So, what you need to do is add a Source. This can be done simply, by tapping on Sources at the bottom right corner of the Installer screen, followed by tapping the "Edit" button at the top right. After doing this tap, the "Add" button on the top right of the screen then key in the following link into the URL field that appears, http://install.ifon.no. Click "Ok" and the Installer app should automatically refresh your Sources list. Look for the SimPort app from the packages list and install it. Restart your iPhone and you should see the Sim Port app added to your Springboard.

Some mixed results have been reported but in general, expect to wait for some time upon launching Sim Port for the first time as it scours your SIM card for the necessary contact information. Once its completed its task, all the contacts on your SIM card should appear on screen and you need only to uncheck the ones that you do not want to import into your iPhone's local Contacts list.

Overall, SimPort is a fantastic workaround for people who have purchased the iPhone without the necessary computer filled with contact information. Simply use SimPort to import all your contacts from your SIM card, sync your iPhone to your Mac or PC and you will have backed up your contacts to your Mac or PC!

SOURCE: downloading contacts from Palm to iphone

My wife and I just bought an iPhone and wanted to transfer our contacts from our Samsung i500 Palm phone. All the instructions I found online suggested going through Outlook, but that didn't work for me for a variety of reasons. I found this other method that worked really well.

  1. Bring up Palm Desktop. Make sure your Palm phone is sync'ed up. Show the Address page, select all contacts (Ctrl-A), and export them with File, Export vCard... This puts all contact information into a single file as a sequence of vCards.
  2. Bring up Windows Address Book. You can find this in Start, All Program, Accessories, Address Book.
  3. Using Windows Explorer, drag the vCard file you created in step 1 to the Windows Address Book window. I had never used Windows Address Book, so it was empty. If yours isn't empty, you'll have to decide whether you want to merge your contacts.
  4. When you drop the file, you'll get a window asking you to confirm the first contact. Press OK. Another window will come up for the second contact. Press OK until all windows are gone. It's easiest to hold down the Enter key.
  5. Bring up iTunes with your iPhone plugged in. Go to your iPhone page, to the Info tab, and configure it to sync from Windows Address Book. Click Apply in the lower-right corner of the window.
  6. Sync your iPhone. Verify that your contacts transferred over.
  7. Tell iTunes to stop sync'ing with Windows Address Book, since you probably only wanted a one-way sync. Your contacts will be backed up anyway by iTunes, so the Address Book sync feature doesn't buy you much.

How do i copy my contacts from my sim to my phone

Your SIM only contains information about how to connect to a carrier and how you can be contacted via the carrier. If you want to backup contacts from and old phone to a new phone, you will need to sync your contacts on an old phone with a google account. If you have an iphone, you can sync your contacts to a google account, then if you use a new phone, you sync to the same account and , voila, your contacts will appear.

How do i access or copy my sim contacts from the sim to the phone?

Actually, you can import contacts from SIM to iPhone with simple steps. Just follow below guide.

iPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card. If you want to transfer contacts between iPhones, you can use iCloud to backup or transfer content between devices. When it comes to import contacts from SIM card to iPhone, users will only need three simple steps.
  1. Remove the SIM card from the old phone, and install it on your iPhone.
  2. Your iPhone may need to reactivate. If so, connect to iTunes.
  3. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Import SIM Contacts.
  4. Wait for the import to complete.
  5. If you swapped SIM cards in step 1, remove the SIM card and replace it with your iPhone SIM card.
  6. Open Contacts and make sure that the contacts imported.

The contact information imported from a SIM card depends on how your previous phone stored information on the SIM card. For more help with importing contacts from a non-Apple phone, check the manufacturer's website, app store, or contact your carrier. After doing this, you will get the contacts in your iPhone. Transferring contacts from SIM card to iPhone is easy to be done when users have a suitable SIM card with iPhone. But if the SIM card cannot be recognized by iPhone, what should the users do to import contacts from SIM card to iPhone?

Is it ok to change Sim card? if the sim in my iphone will be transfered to another phone will my contact be erase?

Before when phone memories were smaller, contacts were normally stored on the sim. However, if you consider the iphone, most of its contacts are already stored on the phone memory and not the sim.

most phones memories can be selected manually, either phone memory or sim.

if you are currently using your sim for your contacts and you are transferring to another phone, then your new phone will be able to use the contacts.

if you are currently using your phone memory for your contacts, then the contacts will be retained in your iphone and you won't be able to use them on your new phone.
