Battery charger flashing red light

I have an Olympus Mju 700 that I haven't used for 3 months. Yesterday, I switched it on and the battery was low so I put it in the charger. For about 30 seconds, the light indicator on the charger was steady red as normal when charging. However, the red light starts blinking instead of being steady. I thought it might be because the battery was very low, so I left it overnight but til this morning, the red light is still blinking. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Clean contact points of both battery and charger with q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol. This solved my problem with blinking lights and not charging of the batteries.

Is there a substitute to rubbing alcohol please? Thanks

Hi, there I have the same problem as well. I read somewhere on this website that there is someone else who had the same problem which was a case of wrong battery, since she acquired that battery from ebay. Upon purchasing the battery from the right seller, she is able to charge it.

However, since my battery was acquired from the right seller, I dont see why my battery cannot be charged, so i called the call center, and the guy told me to clean up my battery charger (the area where the battery meets the charger. It works, so you guys can try too.

HIf the charger is flashing red then the battery was allowed to fully discharge. You can either buy a new battery or force the charger to charge the battery. The way you do this is by applying a voltage across the charging terminals while inserting the battery. I opened the case of my charger and attached wires from a AAA battery to the corresponding wires attached to the charging deck (+ to red and - to black). Then I slipped the battery into the charger and plugged the charger into tho wall. The light should illuminate solid red (no flashing). Then immediately (and carefully) remove the wires from the charger.

Battery charger flashing red

Although the manuals nothing says about flashing red light on charger, my best guess is the battery is defect.
Try to remove the battery several times and start the charging again and again. But when after a few attempts the LED starts flashing again, you better buy a new battery. When you don't use the camera for a longer period, make it a habit, to charge the battery every 3 months or so.

Olympus Tough-8000 Flash Charging Warning

It could be the capacitor in the flash is defect, but it also could be your battery (batteries) are to low on voltage. ALthough when that happens the camera should switch of.
There could be all other kinds of defects, like oxidation of some contacts or a broken flat cable in the camera, But my guess is the capacitor does not charge to the correct voltage.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your issue with the Olympus mju 770 SW. There's a couple of things you can check and try, before thinking about a repair or binning the camera and getting a new model.

1. Check the contacts on the battery are clean?

2. Clean the contacts inside the cameras battery compartment are clean?

3. Is the charger actually charging the battery? Try another battery or see if you can test the existing battery with a multi-meter to check there is some power in it.

It is fairly common for chargers to fail, so it's worth checking out but don't go spending money on a new charger unless you know it will fix your problem.

Hope this helps

My battery died and i lost my charger so i bought a universal charger and it says the battery is fully charged, but when i put it in my camera wont turn on at all, a little red light flashes when i hit the...

dear sir,

the first suspect is your battery, which is running in low battery....kindly recharge the battery for few hours with the original charger, because the charging volt varies from battery to battery of the same brand and using this universal charger is definitely going to harm ur camera very worse, kindly go for the original charger and charge the battery and then put your camera on........

if still the problem is the same ,the problem is usually caused by virus and sometimes it might be software failure also, which causes some of the menu not to function, the only solution is to flash ur cam software from the nearest olympus service centre and it is going to be done free of cost,as your camera is under warranty .......

thank you...take care

Olympus battery charger flashes red when battery is inserted.

"Another way I found was when this happens, to push the battery to the point the light will turn on, when it starts flashing slide it off then back on. Do this a few times so it charges a little, then you should be fine to leave it on."

I tried to do this with my LI-10C Olympus charger and it worked..The blinking red light turns to solid red..Thanks for the info...Now I won't be bothering to buy a new batt.or have my charger checked..
