Check disc Sansui Platinum Plus DVD (&VHS) player. I only use the DVD. Some DVDs work, but others- even brand-new- give a message "Check disc." Sometimes the same DVD works, and then does not, with "check disc" message. I just bought a brand-new Sony DVD player, but it says something about HDMI, and I'm not sure it works with my non-HD SHARP flat screen TV. Any help will be welcomed. Thank you!

The DVD player's laser pickup assembly is intermittent and since it is brand new and under warranty take it back for replacement. There should be no issue with your TV set.

SOURCE: I have a Samsung DVD-R 120

Exactly the same problem with mine. I even went shopping today after months of buying dvds that wouldn't play, to buy a new player. I then had a silly revelation. I pressed open and with a tight grip on a cotton bud I swept all that I could reach within the recorder. Can you believe it but it worked. Now I have my multiregion back and it has so far played all of the PAL 2 and PAL 4 dvds that I have bought since the PSO came on months ago. I don't what the problem was or if this is relative to your problem but I wanted to let you know....

SOURCE: Recording on DVD-R with Samsung DVD-R155

Heating issue. If you remove the cover and touch the processor chip - you will not be able to keep your finger there for more than a second (that is if your really want to use this crude method to test the temp).

I have taken measurement and its around 50C. Thats a lot for no heatsink or cooling fan.

If you have the unit in a cabinet with no air flow - you will not be able to use this unit for more than 3 months and up to a year. Best to have it on top of a cabinet or in one with an open front and back to allow some airflow - or just anywhere where its in the open.

Samsung has another unit - the AR650, which I believe is discontinued - which for some strange reason has realized this concern. My guess its a whole different team of designers (or at least some folks with some brains) and added a cooling fan into the unit. Its the same exact case and motherboard as the 135, and 155. There are absolutely no issues with it rejecting disc's - even after a year of use for some users.

In Summary:

Solution 1 - Place it in the open
Solution 2 - Remove case and drill holes to the topside
Solution 3 - Remove case and add a fan
Solution 4 - Remove case and add a heatsink over proc (will still need to drill holes over heatsink..
Solution 5 - We can all complain to Samsung and have them recall the units

SOURCE: Incompatible Disc in Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-Ray Disc Player

I had the exact same problem as you did... I bought the Sharp Aquos 42D85X which came with Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-ray Disc player. could not get brand new blu-ray movies to play and i found it froze everytime after 10 secs. I phoned sharp who basically were no help watsoever! I then went and returned my blu-ray movies back to the store thinking it was a problem with the discs.. The people there were extremely nice and since they had a display model of the BD-HP21X instore they offered to test the movie on it to veroify whether it was the blu-ray player was the problem or not. Turns out its a fault with all of the BD-HP21X models. So we then ended up returning it back to the store we bought it and exchanged it with the older model (BD-HP20X). I now have no problems playing blu-ray movies. Although another suggestion is to perhaps download the lastest firmware update & see if that resolves your issues.

HD is not HDMI. An HD disc needs an HD DVD player.

I have an older VHS/DVD Polaroid DVS2000 player. Purchased second hand. VHS works, DVD after loading gives this message, "Unknown Disc."

You can try cleaning with a dvd disk cleaner but, generally when this happens the laser assembly needs replaced. You can try a local repair shop but, most people will just buy another DVD system.

Cannot format a dvd-rw disc or record to the disc.

Unless you posted this question in the wrong category, you can't use the Sansui VRDVD4000 to record to DVD. It is a DVD player only, not a DVD burner. It will play and record VHS tapes, but with DVDs it will only play them.

To record to a DVD, you would need a DVD burner. Many modern computers include a DVD burner, so maybe either your computer or someone you know's computer has a DVD burner.

Disc error message when load DVD

Are you loading to play or to record?
Commercial DVDs should play.
DVDs for recording may not be recognized by your drive. First make sure that the disc is blank. You must insert a blank disc of the proper format: DVD-R or RW, DVD+R or RW. Even with the proper format, some brands may not behave the same way as other brands.

Transferring a VHS tape to DVD.

First - be sure you have a DVD RECorder unit and just not a playback unit- It must say recorder on the unit and your manual --
You need DVD-R dvds only to put into this unit.
The instructions are involved and include 5 steps--
1. Format the empty disc.-done automatically when you put any empty disc into the unit.press yes
2. Put on VHS mode on -remote-light VHS lights up on unit
3. Press Dubbing on the remote and press yes
4. When finished press stop on the remote- wait
5. Finalize the DVD- this must be done p. 27 and 28 in manual or see info in my other solutions.
All this process is in the manual on page.76
