Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I recommend against deleting images on the card via your computer. If you want to delete a few pictures, do it from the camera. If you want to delete all of them, format the card in the camera instead. The speed of the card has a lot to do with the number of pics taken in burst mode. I would recommend a class 6 or better.
