Lens stops nearly dead

Hi there.
Thanks so much for your help.
My G7 lens seems to get stuck when I turn on. No image on the screen.
Power, memory seem fine.
Just a short lens, no zoom, no live image on LCD.

When I push the power button (from 100% off) once, the lens opens and it extends about .25cm. Then I push power button again an it extends to about 1 cm then I push power again and the little green light comes on next to wheel on top right.

I then must push the play button (blue above right to LCD)... this Fully Extends the lens way out then retracts fully and closes the cover on the lens and then the LCD turns on and I can scroll photos .... normal activity...then I push play again and the LCD powers off and were closed and powered off.

So, the lens is not stuck as it really does extend 100% and goes in and out no problem but automatically ... zoom control is not working).

I recall exactly when all this started...I took a bunch of photos of a new Condo ... powered off and then back on and ug broken..ie no trama, no rain, no drop, no kids, no coke or gum or dirt.

I did try taking out the battery, charging the battery, taking out the memory card.

HELP PLEASE
Thanks much

Exact same problem and description. The play button is the only way to retract the lens. Also no trauma to the camera. It just stopped. I thought the battery had died...

SOURCE: Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Have an HP pavilion G7 wont boot, no power light , replaced mother board, still wont boot. Removed battery plugged in a/c cord still no boot? Help?

G7 what, it has full model number not just G7,
that means near zero. in fact.

what does boot mean? its a long serial process.
sure no windows (no windows stated, XP?)
the power must turn on and first.
hear that fan run? feel it blow? vents clean first.

The G7 Pavilion is both a desktop PC and a Laptop,
silly no, but HP did that, google G7 , SEE?

I guess the BATTERY thing is not the CMOS battery but the huge , Laptop battery. smart act taking it out first. they do short.
but what about sound, and the fan blowing. it must blow
or the Power pack is dead.
i bet the old mother board was ok. and you didnt do the strip down test to prove that.

ever heard of these?
1: CMOS RTC BIOS NVRAM COIN cell, replace it first.
if not the BIOS can not load configs. ever. again. bad bad bad.
2: power pack dead if fan is dead. replace it its only $8
or use a voltmeter is it enters the mobo 19vdc, is ok, less that 18v not.
3: then if the fan is still dead, power dead, BIOS dead.
and external VGA port dead to external monitors, then
we pull modules off the MOBO, up to 6 or more
they all can short and when they do, power goes to ZERO
the regulators do that by DESIGN.
(the no catch fire deal)

sure wish you said (lap or desk top sure did)
after all the Desktop PSU may be bad, if its fan is dead.

Turn off the camera.
