I purchased this note book (HP Pavilion dv6-2140ee, Windows 7-64 bit (Service Pack1),Display- NVIDIA GeForce G105M) from Abu Dhabi (U. A. E.). and now I am facing a serious problem in my display monitor. There is a horizontal thick Bar line at the bottom of display. It started as a small line and gradually increased to 105 cm in size. and now it has been remaining at this size for 6 months. So kindly help me to know the reason behind this problem and what is the solution ?. Hope you will reply me soon and thanks in advance. Regards, Retheesh Xavier xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Take it back to the retailer. Unless it is more than a year old. The graphics chip or screen has failed.
Testimonial: "I think You are right.thanks for suggestion and i am looking for a service centre in mumbai"
bad LCD (no photos posted of screen , oops)
so bad LCD or CCFL tubes dead.
or loose cables to LCD.
this is a 2009 PC and 2008/0
can also have the GPU chips bad called the "lead free BGA solder ball fiasco"
for those with DV6 ask for test to prove what is bad.
this CCFL PC, has only 1 tube. so its
dim, yellow ,or dead or intermittent
will not go dead in one area 1 of 4 possible like PCs. so is LCD or GPU failure.

You are not alone with this problem. Some lines (like mine) run vertically rather than horizontally. The solution - sue HP. These screens have a known fault ie the Nvidia graphics chip is known to be the culprit. The company knows all about this issue but expect us to pay to put it right - sue them, you can do it online for around £35 (UK).

Yes, this is a defective screen. The only fix is to replace the screen. It's called a column of dead pixels. Since it is under warranty, contact HP to have them warranty it out or take it back to the place you purchased it from for an exchange. Please take a moment and give this answer a good rating of fixya. Thank you.
SOURCE: Display has lines that run through it
they can be horizontal. I think your graphics card on your motherboard is bad. you should consider sending it to acer so they can replace it with a new one.

Common problem.
There are small VRAM BGA chips.
1 or 2 of them needs REFLOW.
Basically needs board service.

I want to share my experienced with 2 units HP notebook; Presario V3000 (V3737tu) and Pavillion dv2000 (dv2505tx).
The notebooks have problem with Intel & NVidia VGA driver , but all the problem now solved by using microsoft display driver (Standard VGA), this way can solving the problem of lowest 4-bit (600x480) and spliting into 8 screen that makes me upset.
This like a virus/worm/malware/trojan or whatever that can makes us very upset ... please also do scan & clean virus/worm/malware/trojan with all free that can be download ... (I am using AVG, Norman Malware cleaner, Virus effect remover, PCMAV) ... Now, 1 of my notebook now can use back NVidia driver again .... the other is still scanning/cleanning, still using Microsoft VGA Standard driver and still working well ...
