Signal found, but no connectivity

Returned home to find my previously working router no longer gets me on the internet. The modem checks out fine, and the wireless signal is found by my computer -- but no connectivity.

Power and WAN lights are continuous; status light blinks.

Even when connecting by cable (modem to router, router to computer) I cannot get to the LAN. Time for a new router?

Try this. It should renew your configuration between your router and your internet provider:

Step 1 Log into the web-based configuration by typing in the IP address of the router (default:192.168.0.1) in your web browser. The username is admin (all lowercase) and the password is blank (nothing).

Note: The 192.168.0.1 address is NOT on the internet. It is the address to the router itself.

Step 2 Click the Home tab and click the WAN button. Dynamic IP Address is the default value, however, if Dynamic IP Address is not selected as the WAN type, select Dynamic IP Address by clicking on the radio button. Click Clone Mac Address. Click on Apply and then Continue to save the changes.

Step 3 Click on Status. Under WAN, Click DHCP Renew. If it does not get an IP address or times out, then continue with Step 4.

Step 4 Power cycle the cable modem and router:

Turn the cable modem off (first)
Turn the router off
Leave them off for 2 minutes**
Turn the cable modem on (first)
Wait until you get a solid cable light on the cable modem
Turn the router on
Wait 30 seconds

** If you have a Motorola (Surf Board) modem, leave off for at least 5 minutes.

Step 5 Follow Step 1 again and log back into the web configuration. Click the Status tab and click the Device Info button. If you do not already have a public IP address under the WAN heading, click on the DHCP Renew and Continue buttons.
If you're still getting no connection to the internet, another alternative (before chucking the router) would be to reset it to factory defaults, and run through the setup process again, from scratch.

Cheers

Sounds like a problem with your cable connection. Check your coaxial cable, and the splitter from where the cable enters your home. The tech will use a signal meter to measure the quality of your cable, and then replace the wiring if necessary.

Router communication with cable modem

If you change service providers, connection type and hardware, then all your previous connection settings will not work, and they'll have to all be reconfigured.

Hello,

Do this with your network setup. Power down your DSL/Cable modem first by unplugging the power. Power down the router next by unplugging the power. Power off your computer also. Now , power up the dsl/cable modem and let it resync with the ISP ...all lights green and showing activity. Next power up the Linksys router and then do a factor restore reset by pushing in the reset and holding it for a count of 5 (the front lights will go red then flash) let go of the reset as your linksys router is all set to default setttings from the factory. Now power up your computer and try the internet after it boots up. Should hook to the internet with no problems now. Now access your router menu by typing http://192.168.1.1 and hit enter. The router log in menu should now display. just click on the password tab and enter admin the default password and then change your password in the router to something hard to remember and WRITE IT DOWN! There is also great help from linksys web site on networking your home. Good luck,

Make sure DHCP is turned off on the modem or else you will get ip conflicts. Also make sure it is plugged into the wan port on the router

Router Not Working

OK, check which address ya on... see there are a couple of sets... there is 192.168.0.*, and 10.1.1.* ... or the like sometimes the settings get screwed up..I suggest that ya reset it up all again using the Wizard... then go to each client and run Internet connection manager to establish the connection... Think of the router as a stand alone little PC... that "hands out" the address, to the clients... work methodically thru it & hopefully ya be all good to go?

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
