Mitsubishi WS55315 rear-projection has gone dark

8-yr old WS55315 has gone dark. This follows a couple of weeks of 'warning signs' when blank screen would appear for a minute when set was first turned on. Now menu briefly displays, but no screen. Audio seems fine. Repair shops are listed in our zip code. Question is: realistically, is it a good candidate for repair?

I found the service manual online--here it has on page 21 how to get into the option menu and do the option reset:

Thanks again. I did a hard reset as you suggested. We're back in business!

Yes, they have other than convergence circuit problems----very few issues or troubles.

You should test the shops by asking if they have the 4 digit code number for this model for the OPTION MENU---set has 3 hidden menus and OPTION menu will allow a hard reset of entire set---the other two menus are adjustment and convergence menus.

If some shop has no idea what the option menu is----pass them.

Testimonial: "Thank you, SD Tech. Very helpful. Can you hazard a guess as to what the problem might be?"

in the option menu is the hard reset and either it will cure it or not.

I have that information but it is filed in USA and I am in Canada for a few months--It needs to be tried but this is a very stable set--unlike plasma, dlp, and lcd.

My almost 10 yr old Mitsubishi HDTV intermitently has color flux

The Main issues with the Mitsubishi HDTVs that size are the projection bulbs in the rear. A large TV like the Mitsubishi can allow dust build up on the lamps and the mirror in the rear that projects the picture to the screen. An easy fix would be to clean off the dust off of the mirror and bulbs. You would need to go through a tough processto do this since the mirror can be quite heavy and is in an ackward place. The only other alternative would be the need to replace the projection lamps themselves which can cost any where fromm $150 - in some cases $300 a piece for the lamp itself. The Television is still a great set but can cost quite a bit right now to fix if the problem is with the Lamps. If you can afford the Lamp replacement if it is needed the set would last you another 10 years plus. If you wouldn't like to go through the hassle of repairing the set or finding a place to repair the set there are so many new sets out in the market that will give you an amazing picture and quality.

Green blinking light under timer

I can almost guarantee that the circuit board(s) have bad capacitors on them. I repaired one last week that had 20 bad capacitors on 4 boards.
Fixed one the week before with 15 bad caps on two boards.
A repair shop may be able to replace the boards, but it may be expensive.

Yes you will need to replace both of the STK392-570 Convergence ICs and the two 5 amp pico fuses. You can get the parts at the following link and they provide instructions with pictures that show how to do the repair. Heres the link'

Mitsubishi WD-52327 52 in. Rear Projection DLP

I have a 2 year old Mitsubishi Rear Projection 52" model WD-52525. I recently experienced the same problem as you. My TV quit without any warning and the red lamp light came on. I bought a replacement lamp just like you did, did everything you did too, but it still didn't work either. Since it's past the 1 yr warranty (of course), I took it in to an authorized service center for an estimate. They determined the light engine failed and it will cost me $816.35 to repair. I already shelled out $240+ for a lamp, $48 for the repair estimate and I said "hell" no, I'm not going to fix it for another $800+ and bought a new TV. I'm writing a letter to Mitsubishi expressing my deep dissatisfaction (to put it mildly) with this faulty product and will be requesting reimbursement, which I probably won't get. I sincerely hope this is not the same problem your TV has, but if it is be prepared for a costly fix.
