First washer started making noise during spinning. Then it stopped all together, full of water. I assume the spin motor and pump are separate so I tried moving the dial to spin so the pump will at least pump out the water but it only made a hum for a short period of time then stopped, and I also noticed a smell of something electrical burning so I unplugged the washer. What could the problem be? Could it be a relay or something similar? Thanks!
Have you tried to drain the drum manualy by opening the drain plug, normaly located on botom either in the front or the back.
when drained unplug the machine from the wall socket. then open the backcover, the drainpump are usually located next to drainplug. if not follow the hose connected to drain plug to get to the pump.when you found the pump remove it from the washing machine and strip it to clean the inside of the pump ,the impellor and so on. their you will find some black stuff that will stink a lot ,thats all old soap water.after cleaning put it back together and reinstall it. it should solve the problem, if not check for propper supply voltage to pump and spin motor.

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/Dryer-Parts/index.aspx Take a look at what a new motor costs for your machine and go from there. Is may not be a motor is could be a belt or a bearing. I rebiult a washer for less then 50 dollars that one did not need a motor just bearings and a belt. I would take the washer apart so you can get an idea of what went wrong and then look at parts to repair it and decide what to do good luck

your belt needs changed. and i would check the pump to make sure its not siezed
SOURCE: my maytage washer would make a terrible screaching
check your motor coupling, it is between the motor and transmission, made of rubber and plastic, if it is not broken and you heard a lot of screaching ,i would say it is your basket drive tube-could have gotten worn down on the bottom around the clutch brake area! mine sheared off the brass t post on the bottom of the drive tube, which my clip holding on the brake release arm fell off ,arm fell off and thus no spin,i bought a used basket drive tube installed it with a new clutch and is working fine now! a lot of work though to replace it
