Very sticky handles on Maclaren Techno XT buggy. Not grandchildren as they are only small. Any solutions please?

  • Anonymous Feb 09, 2009

I have exactly the same problem, however our buggy has had some serious use and the handles are very worn, evrything else ok on the buggy apart from the sticky handles that also leaves my hands black. I do not want to resort in using clingfilm, all I want to do is purchase new handles if possible!

The stickiness is caused by the chemical breakdown of the rubberized material that is covering the plastic, almost like a coating of paint. Isopropyl Alcohol will clean this defective rubberized material off and then the handles will no longer be sticky. I used 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and it was a bit of work. A higher percentage solution would work faster and easier.

Ok as they are sticky it means you have eft them out side or in the rain
simply just put cling film over the top of the handles it realy works !! :)

Hi - I have had this with the Techno XT - Luckily I have found a fantastic company in Spain, but they do have a website in UK. Its called Buggy Socks. They make socks that slip over the handles which either preserves your handles or provides a solution for the sticky handles of the maclaren. I love mine, they come in loads of cool colours etc and are washable too. A great price too even with postage . Paula

Buggy Handle Socks - I make them and sell them on Ebay for under 5 pounds. Cheap and effective solution which means you don't have to send the buggy away for repairs. It also helps us save towards my daughter's University fees!

I have the same problem. Emailed McLaren and they advides to go to their website.

A full list of Service Agents can be found on their website, www.maclarenbaby.com click United Kingdom, Customer Service, Service Agents.

Called my local service agent and they were able to provide me with 2 new handles and fit them! (£10 per handle!)

The handles on my maclaren techno xt have gone all sticky and i would like to replace them. where can i buy parts please?

Go to your local fishing shop, fishing rods have the same stuff on them. worth trying! otherwise you can get to Maplin get some electrical heat shrink stuff just as good and a range of colour choices.

Broken handle

Ooo, an airline damaged my handle of my Maclaren XT last year. If you go to your local baby shop and ask if they act as Maclaren agents, they can order you 2 new handles, here in Australia they quoted my $39. I had to get my husbands work to pop the existing rivits and then Maclaren supplied screws to attach the new handles sent.

Hope this helps.

Broken clip to keep techno xt folded up

I had the same problem, but mine did not happened at an airplane. I went back to the store I purchased it here in Miami and they sent me to a authorized repair shop for Maclaren strollers., it was not covered on the warranty. But in 15 minutes and $20 I had it repaired with a new clip. Check for dealers in your neighborhood.
