Washer pulls in dirty water through drain hose

Hi Les,

Yes there is an easy way to resolve this. The way that a washer hose is intended to be rigged is the hose goes HIGHER than the machine itself. The reason is there is NOT a valve that keeps water from running out that hose, only the fact that the hose is routed so high.
So, this discharge hose then typically has a 180 degree bend and then about 4 to 10 inches of hose. THIS end of the hose is intended to fit LOOSELY into a plumbed drain line. Because the hose fits loosely into the drain line, that provided the required air break that prevents siphoning.
This "plumbed drain line" must have a "p" trap in it or sewer gases will fill back into the house.

Have you checked the outlet pipe that the machines pipe discharges into ? Sometimes these get filled up with sludge etc and may siphon back in smelly water at the end of a cycle. You could also see where the pipe drains into the sewer system , see if there is a local blockage.

Water from garbage disposal backing up

Check to see if there is a loop in the drain line. The drain line coming out of the disposal has to have a loop in it that is higher than the disposal. That way water can't drain back into the dishwasher.

Smelly black discharge from hot water every so often seems like a chemical reaction with well water and what heats the water in the tank. When turn off power and let the hot water sit for awhile there is...

Turn off water heater and flush it out. Hook hose up to hose bib on water heater.Close valve on hot water side.Run hose outside or into a drain.Open valve where you hooked up hose and let run 20 to 30 minutes to clear out tank.I would recommend putting a filtering system on the line going into the tank. This should clear up the problem. If not you have to have the anode rod replaced, depending on the age of the water heater. If you want to learn more about the anode rod, google anode rod ,it will bring you up to a site that will explain to you what it is. You will have to go to a plumbing supply store to find one.

There is a terrible smell from my washer

Hi, what happens is that water sits at the bottom of the discharge pipe, as well as a build up of "gunk", which is a great breeding ground for bacteria and such. So during the first rinse out, the smelly water and gunk is discharged into the drain, and the smell comes up from the laundry tub drain. Pour a few cups of bleach into the discharge hose and let it sit for an hour. This will kill all the nasties. Then just run the machine once through to pump out the bleach.

I have a smelly vaginal discharge

You need to wash it with 80/20% ammonia/vinegar solution. If it still persists try anti-body-otic. If very persistent, purchase MAPP Gas fuel in yellow cylinder attached to torch nozzle and incinerate until it's not visible superficially. Washing helps keep germs and viruses infecting operating parts.
