Check the heating element to see if the wire is broken and is touching the surrounding case. If the element breaks and "shorts out" it will sause the element to stay on.

SOURCE: Electric Clothes Dryer Problem

if the dryer worked fine before with the element not staying on when you open the door, etc, then what you have done is a very common mistake to make, you must have dislodged a wire off, or maybe placed one back in the wrong place, its a very easy error to make, which is why when removing parts for repair on any appliance you must make very detailed notes, better still take digital photographs with a digital camera double check any wires etc, don't worry i am a retired appliance engineer and even we can make this mistake

SOURCE: whirlpool dryer won't run

you may have a broken centrifugal switch in the motor because this switch activates the motor and the heater as well. supposed to be if the motor does not run , the heater should not heat in order not to create fire but you said that even the motor is not running, the heater is still heating, then there could be a problem with the motor centrifugal switch that is connected to this interlock switch that should trigger the heater.

SOURCE: my maytag dryer heating element gets hot but motor will not run

Sounds like you have something shorted out.

The element issue could be a contact fused shut.
With both problems I would be looking for wires melted together, or a relay/sequencer welded shut melted etc.

You do have a potential fire hazzard here. If after removing the panel you cannot locate the problem, do not run the unit.

SOURCE: maytag centennial commercial technology motor will not run

Sounds like the door contact switch is stuck in the on position.
You can replace the switch pretty easily.
Turn off the power, and with a phillips stubby screwdriver, remove the two screws in the front kick panel of the front panel and tip the bottom edge out. There are two metal retainer clips on the top edge of the front panel and as you tip the panel, the top retainers will disengage. There are 2 wires on the front panel to the door switch that are easily popped off and the switch will pop out of the front panel with minimal effort. I'm sure you can find a door switch for this online at repairclinic.com

The dry will not start the display or dig. Controls wont engage anything the start button keeps flashing was just working great

Bad Heating Element
Most clothing dryers heat up and dry clothes with a heating element inside the appliance's body. Maytag dryers are no different and sometimes these heating elements break down or burn out, making the dryer cease to get hot. Make sure the dryer is unplugged and the breakers that run the dryer are switched off before inspecting so you don't electrocute yourself. The heating element is in the bottom panel of the dryer and is often a silver part which heats up when the dryer is on. Sometimes the heating element will be cracked or burned out, which means it is broken. Other times it won't look damaged but may not be working. Replace the heating element if this occurs, to see if this is the main problem.
Broken Motor
Maytag dryers have motors which turn the dryer drum, tossing the clothes so that air and heat can help dry them out completely. When the dryer drum is not turning it means there is something wrong with the motor or that the motor is not getting power. Unplug the dryer and take it apart to inspect the motor. Once you have found the motor, plug the dryer back in and use a meter to see if the motor is getting power. If it is, and isn't working, then there is something wrong with the motor and how it is operating. If the motor isn't getting power, then there is something wrong with the circuits or fuses which disperse power to the motor itself.
Bad Switch
When Maytag dryers won't tumble or heat the clothes which have been put inside of them, this means there could be a number of different things wrong. However, sometimes there's a simple solution to this problem: The switch on the door of the dryer itself may be faulty or not making the electric connection it should to allow the dryer to run. This is a cheap fix and worth troubleshooting before tearing your Maytag dryer apart. Remove the switch and inspect the two leads to make sure they haven't broken or are still transferring electricity. If they aren't you will have to replace the switch

  • There are a number of different problems which can occur with models of Maytag dryers resulting in them not heating and drying clothes properly. A variety of parts could have broken or been worn out over the course of the time you have been using your dryer or something could just malfunction, as appliances tend to do from time to time. Check warranty information before trying to repair the Maytag dryer yourself.

Ge dryer #DBXR463ED2WW does not start and power is going to dryer

You said, GE dryer #DBXR463ED2WW does not start and power is going to dryer

Here are the 5 most common reasons for your Electric dryer not to start.

    Door Switch
The door switch must be operative before the dryer will start. Ensure the door switch strike is properly actuating the switch and if so, check the door switch for continuity with an ohmmeter for proper operation.

    Faulty Drive Motor
If the motor will not start, it is possible it is defective. The wiring of the motor is different for each brand and you will need to refer to the wiring diagram of your dryer for the specific terminal locations. You will need to use a volt/ohm meter to check for resistance between the run winding and common (may be referred to a neutral). If there is no resistance, the motor is open and will need to be replaced.

The motor bearings can also go bad. A dryer with a motor in this condition can sometimes be started by hand and it will run. However when the motor gets hot the bearings begin to seize and the motor will stop. In this condition you must also replace the motor.

    Electric Dryers:
On Electric dryers you will need to check the heat element for resistance. With the power disconnected, remove the two wires connecting to the heat element and check the resistance of the heat element by using a volt/ohm meter. The resistance should be between 5 and 50 ohms of resistance. If there is no reading the element is defective and will need to be replaced.

    Heating Source
If the element is not receiving power it is likely that one of the thermostats is defective.

    Thermal Fuse
The thermal fuse is in series with one leg of power to the motor. If the fuse is open (no continuity) the motor will not run.

    Location:
The thermal fuse is located in different locations according to the model and brand of dryer.

    Solution:
Check the thermal fuse for continuity with a volt/ohm meter. If it is open, it will need to be replaced.

    Timer
The timer is the source for power to the motor and if the timer contacts are defective, there will be no power getting to the motor. Since the wiring is different between brands and models, you will need to refer to your wiring diagram for terminal locations. Once you have located the correct terminal for the motor operation, you will need to turn on the dryer and check for 110v from the timer terminal for motor operation and the chassis ground. If you have the voltage, the timer is most likely okay and the problem is elsewhere. If there is no voltage, the timer is defective and must be replaced.
