If using a box try to turn captions on there first----if hooked via rear jacks the box may have grayed out the option in the set as it is first in line.

SOURCE: closed captions will not disappear

Some TV will not display close caption in HD mode. This is why its Grey out in HD mode. If you switch to regular input, i can bet you your close caption will not be Grey out. The problem you are having is your cable box has close caption enable. You must go into the cable box menu and turn caption off. In some box you may have to call your cable provide for assistant.

If your using the RGB inputs or A/V inputs I do believe that feature is disabled. You have to use the closed caption capabilities with the cable box or satellite from with-in them, which ever you may have. The CC is only active in the menu when cable is directly connected to the RF jack for input on the TV, which can be the cable box also. Hope this helped.

SOURCE: I can't get rid of the captions on the 50 inch LG TV

My Lg was doing the same thing. Every movie we watched had subtitles running at the bottom of the screen. The button was at the bottom of the remote. Once we pressed it, it came up on the screen saying CC/OFF. Also had this happen on same TV with DVD player and had to turn it off with the DVD remote. Subtitles OFF/ON

How can i play english subtitles in my tv lg 42 inches

If the signal is from a digital source with multiple language options, then press Menu and go to Option (with the up/down arrows). Press the right arrow button and go to Caption Text. Press the right arrow button and use the up/down arrows to select English. Press Exit or Menu to save and either return to TV viewing or the previous menu.

Otherwise, you will be limited turning on the captions with the CC button and viewing the captions available with the video feed.

For some sources (DVD, satellite), you may need to change the caption options on that unit. See the appropriate manual for the device.

I hope this helps.

Above pretty much says it. The "Caption" function under "Option" is greyed out. Can someone tell me how to "ungrey/activate the closed caption option?

If the closed caption is shaded out in the menu, this usually means closed caption is not an option. Closed caption can not be turned on if the TV is on component, RGB, DVI, Or HDMI inputs. The closed caption will need to be turned on by using the set-top box or other device that is connected to TV inputs. or if the tv is connected directly to the cable line or anteanna

My Caption cannot be turned of

Use the C C button repeatedly to select Caption O f f, C C 1,1C C 2, C C 3, C C 4, T e x t 1, T e x t 2, T e x t 3 or T e x t 4. If your remote does not have the cc button then try this. Go to menu,scroll to option select it,then go to caption/text and select off in that option.
