Toshiba 36HFX72 power button flashing

Anyone have a guestimate of what this problem could be, the TV picture does not come on, the red LED power light flashes (does not do this normally) when the tv is off & when I try to turn it on the light stays solid for 10-15 seconds then goes back to flashing & the tv does not turn on. Unplugging & plugging only makes it seem to turn on (regular turn-on noises) but picture (nor sound) never come on & LED power light returns to flashing. Toshiba support says it is probably a component on the main board. Any ideas problem/cost to fix?? Thx much

SOURCE: Power button flashing red, cannot turn on or off...

this symptom is usually caused by a breakdown in the power-supply circuit. in most modern receivers (transistorised and/or ic), it may also be caused by a breakdown in the horizontal deflection circuits (horizontal oscillator, pre-drive or drive circuits.). this is because the supply volatages for the tuner, video intermidiate frequency(VIF), video amplifier, sound intermediate frequency(SIF) and vertical output circuit are usually supplied by the horizontal output circuit. since you are not inclined with this kind of job, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. with regards to the cost of repair, i cannot tell you the price since my location is different from yours. but to give you and idea, here in philippines $100 is enough for this kind of trouble!

SOURCE: Toshiba 36HF71 has sound but no picture

Same problem with mine. Relays click, sound, no picture and a flashing power LED. I finally found a schematic online. I went through the high voltage circuits and found the power transistor 2SC5570 was shorted out. There is also a pico fuse in that area but my was not open. I replaced the transistor and prayed the flyback transformer was not shorted. It wasn't, I'm watching my old 36" right now. Not a bad fix (17.00) bucks. Wonder what a service tech would have charged ;)

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

No Picture on Toshiba 42RV530U

I had a similar problem to this yesterday. Tv is same Toshiba model as you mentioned about 4 months old. In my case, after the TV working perfectly following installation, the standby LED on the front (the one that is red on standby and green when on) went to a flashing orange (after switching on from standby) and the picture disappeared although the sound remained OK. I was unable to get any response from the setup or menu on the remote, otherwise I would have tried resetting the TV. Regardless of how much switching off/on (including disconnecting the powerlead and leaving for few minutes), disconnecting all peripherals, etc., nothing helped. I looked up Toshiba's web site and under support they basically suggest switching off the TV and restarting using the onset buttons (not the remote) and pressing the menu button (again the one on the set (not the remote) and if you could get the menu box to appear then reset to default settings. I tried this but the results were the same. I therefore thought the TV was defective. However, after much frustration I did the following (I think): 1) Disconnect everything from the TV 2) Powered up from the mains switch whilst keeping BOTH the startup and menu buttons on the side of the TV pressed down. The result in my case was that the standby led and one of the two beside it flashed green simultaneously. However, when the buttons were released, the TV started up the same (flashing LED orange and sound no picture). 3) Pretty well defeated at this point, after doing the procedure at (2) several times with the same results, I somehow thought of pressing the standby button on the remote either whilst the two buttons on the set were depressed or just after they were released. I am afraid I cannot remember which and cannot replicate the problem as I don't know what caused it in the first place. 4) The TV then started normally ( no reception as I had not aerial connected, etc.,) but I was able to gain access to the screen menu/setup buttons via the remote which were in French rather than English. However, after reconnecting everyrthing the TV has worked fine (obviously after resetting the language via the menu). I am sorry I cannot be more precise but I hope this might be of help to someone with a similar problem.

Red light flashing while green light stays on

I have the same TV, your projection bulb has quit/failed.

A loud pop was heard and the picture has gone followed by a red led fault light clicking on and off.

if your tv is less than 1 year old, and you registered it with Toshiba, you could qualify for a free replacement.

otherwise expect to pay 200.00 for a new bulb from Toshiba.

only good thing is you can replace it yourself, only tool needed is a phillips screwdriver.

you can check EbaY for prices less than 175.00 to 150.00
i am on my 3rd bulb within 4 years....

good luck!
