My washing machine makes a very loud banging noise at the start and end of the spin cycle and there is a scraping sound throughout the cycle as though there is metal in the drum. What could be causing this?

If you have an older machine it is the un-even load distribution in the wash tub. The wash is not evenly distributed in the wash tub. The wash tub don't spin evenly and wobble instead.

Hello, washing machine is mounted on two supports, if it is damaged first which is where the engine so both need to be replaced because they wear out. If you're just a little handy so you know it himself .Ak you order parts so precisely that type because they are different .
Need a full model #. Describe the noise; is it a banging, scraping, whirring, etc? Does it make the sound when it should be agitating and/or spinning? Has it run fine until this incedent? Thanks.
It sounds like the drive block may be stripped out. To check it, you will need to remove the agitator to see if it is bad. Below is a video to show you how to access the drive block. Here is the part to order if you should find it bad.
If the drive block is good, post back to me and we will continue the diagnostics on the unit.
Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.
