Hi,
The AC works fine, but no heat! Help
You need to have some one check the continuity of the thermal fuses at the plug where it plugs into the side of the control box. It's a two pin plastic white plug with black fabric covered wires coming out of the plug, you should have about (0) resistance or maybe 1 ohm. If you have no reading at all you will have to pull the heating coils out. Not a big job but, the unit must be removed from the wall as you have to take off the long top metal plate. Remember you do this only if you have to get to the coils. You can get the the plastic plug with out removing the unit but unplugging the plastic plug this may be a little tough but, you can do it.
Make sure you pull the Power plug out of the unit or out of the wall before testing for continuity.
I hope this helps. I put a picture below. It's the only one I have. On the right of the unit under the control panel there is a metal box you can see the front if it in the picture. Most units have this box on the right side. On the left side of the box are the plugs for heat, fan and Thermal fuses.
There maybe another plug with yellow wires. the plug with the 2 black wires is the one you want. Squeeze the side of the plug to unlock the plug then just pull out and test.

I forgot to say if your thermal fuses are okay then it is ether your heating coil or control board. You maybe able to get a thermal fuse at Radio Shack, if you do, do not solder the fuse in the unit as a replacment as the solder will melt and the fuse fall out. You need to crimp Stainless steel terminales on the ends of the fuse (s) there will be 2 or 4 fuses.

Is it not heating in heat pump mode, emergency heat mode, or both? The default heat mode on the AZ55 is heat pump. Does the fan blow in heat mode? It's difficult to diagnose a heat pump with the information given. Since you say the unit cools, it's not a compressor problem. Possible problems could be reversing valve, thermostat, control board, or switch, if it is in heat pump mode. If it is running in emergency heat mode, problem could be switch, thermostat, control board, or heating element.
To determine if the unit is in HP or emergency heat mode, have a qualified technician check the auxiliary control switches. There are 2 sets of these. The set on the left, switch marked ALL I2R. If it is down, the unit is in HP mode, up is resistance heat. Hope this helps some.

HI,
No, the unit does not heat in any mode, heat pump or emergency. It will not generate any heat. But, the fan works fine. All that comes out is cool air.
Same thing here. It makes sort of a metal swirly sound as if something is spinning around in there, and only cool air comes out. The AC worked fine over the summer, but switching over to heat now that it's cold out has brought about this problem. I REALLY don't feel like buying a new unit. Spent a grand on this one not even 6 years ago.
