'65 Mustang Hazard Lights

The AU ford has two indicator relays , turning lights and hazard lights ,both use the indicator lights ,the hazards flash both front and rear lights , the turning indicator flashes one front and one rear light. I think the fault may be in the hazard circuit.

YOU MIGHT HAVE A BURNT OUT RELAY IN FUSE COMPART UNDER YOU CARS HOOD CHECK THAT OUT THRU YOUR CARS MANUAL,IT WILL SHOW YOU WHICH RELAY IT IS?

Have you tried wiggling the hazard light switch? The brake light switch puts 12 volts to the hazard/turn signal switch,and the switch will apply this to both taillights.If you turn on the left or right turn signal,it will only route 12 volts to the other light.If you turn on the hazard lights,it will only allow the 3rd brake to come on due to the brake switch.Often.the hazard light/brake light contacts get corroded due to not being turned on and off regularly.Have someone watch the taillights(or use a mirror) to see if they come on when you wiggle the hazard switch.If it does,turn the hazard light switch on and of repeatedly to clean the contacts.

I think most if not all of the lights go thru the ignition switch. What I mean is the ignition switch must be on for the lights to work.
Most of the lights are on different circuits with different fuses and relays. They are connected to the battery and alternator but not directly. Most but not all are connected to the headlight switch.
One thing that does tie everything together is the grounding of the car. All voltage goes back to the battery by way of the steel frame of the car.
If a ground strap or cable is loose or dirty, electricity has problems getting back to the battery.
So the options are the headlight switch, the ignition switch, and the ground circuits.
I would start by checking the tail lights or headlights to see if they are getting 12 volts, then check and see if the lights are grounded back to the battery. I've even run a wire from front to rear to bypass the car ground connections to test.

if your hazard lights stay on, you may have a problem with the hazard switch on your stearing collum. try moving it back & forth several times, eg. on, off, on, off always ending @ off & see if that works. they do get sticky @ times. your brake lights will work but your turn signals won't work properly with the hazard switch turned on. let me know if problem persists & will see if i can help you more. good luck.

Check the fuses. And check for power at the taillights (These taillights have circuit boards on the back side that can go bad.) I don't think the hazard switch is it because the brakes would still work. Also check the brake pedal switch. There is a hazard flasher, does the hazards work?

sounds like the battery is too dead to start the motor.. Try a jumpstart or battery charger.

if the car isnt running but you turn the key to the on position it comes on until the car is running

you may have had a bad connection at the battery that would cause this kind of problem

Sometimes the new battery is not 100% charged. Put it on a charger or jump start the car, the alternator should then charge up the battery.
