My dryer stopped working -- won't turn and motor makes odd noise like not engaged properly

Dryer motor will run and sounds like the dryer motor is running but the "belt" may be broken because the dryer cage does not turn. What should I do? BK

Kenmore dryer cage will not turn, the heat is on.

Can anybody send me a picture of the belt tensioner/motor assembly. I can't figure out how to get the tensioner to pull opposite to the motor spindle. [email protected]. The spring attaches to the lower part of the tensioner arm but this just creates no tension whatsoever.

At the rear of the unit on the lower right hand side of the dryer you will find a 6" X 6" vented panel. If you remove it you will have access to the Dryer motor and belt. Check to see if the belt has derailed or broken and you can also check to see if motor is operational.

Still turns after opening door

When the door is closed the switch will close, allowing power to circulate through the rest of the circuit. When the dryer door is open the switch will open, breaking electrical contact to the neutral connection of the circuit and stopping the flow of electricity. so it sounds like a bad dryer door switch.

My electric GE dryer stopped working today, when

sounds like the motor is running, the belt could likely be broken and be the culprit, this is if the motor is turning for sure after you start the dryer

Dryer won't start 7yr old dryer, was working fine yesterday, today was making strange buzzing noise while running, stopped it to check, and now won't turn back on.DEAD

Sounds like a defective motor starter contactor. DO NOT continue to try to use the dryer or you'll burn the motor out. The motor starter is built into the motor, but most are replaceable without replacing the entire motor.

Could also be the motor, but sounds like the motor is stuck in 'start' mode and never goes into 'run,' which would be the classic symptom of a stuck motor start contactor.

Loud buzz when starting, then shutting down after 10 min.

Yes, this sounds like the motor cutting out on thermal lockout.

Dryer makes a loud buzzing noise then quits working.

Sounds like the motor's done. That thing is probably the start-run switch. Not worth trying to fix on an old motor. I've found dryer motors to be fairly generic, you should be able to find a replacement. I use Repairclinic.com when I can't get parts locally.
