There is a short in the power supply board, shorted regulator transistor, or diode, and capacitor, "sometimes a bulge at top" cheaper to replace than repair.

SOURCE: I have my bro's almost

Hi,
This kind of symptoms indicated that the power supply was disable. The most common caused of this fault is the dried filter electrolytic capacitor in the output of this section. It will dropped the normal working voltage of the power supply feeding the mainboard and other boards. To isolate the faulty one, you must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition. Another caused of this symptom is the dried/cold solder in that board also. This is hard to spot, you must work in the brightest area or used table/portable lamp and magnifying glass. Re-solder the power supply board as much as possible.
Faulty power switch is also to consider here. You may spray it with the contact cleaner to clean the contact from dirt. If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

My Technika LCD32-229 is just over 12 months old and has suddenly decided not to respond to the remote or on/off control on the TV. If I turn of the power at the mains for 30 seconds or so, it will then...

HERE'S THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEM:

The possible reason why your TV doesn't respond to your remote is probably the battery of your remote. Maybe it has been used up to it's fullest capacity, so try checking it up. In case, it has been used up, try to buy a new one.

The possible reason why your TV doesn't stay on is still your remote control. Maybe you have accidentally set it to "sleep mode." When it is set into sleep mode, it turns on just for a shorter time. It cannot stay on longer.

So, here's what you've got to do. Check your remote. When the remote works already, press the sleep button remote again. I hope it works for you.

Thanks.

Define "standby" mode.

Hello,

The standby mode is a power saving feature. In this mode, a it does not shut down completely, just goes to low power state and so it consumes less power. When it resumes from the standby mode, full power is restored.. During the standby mode, if the power supply is disconnected or interrupted, data might be lost.

Hope this helps,
