That symptom is usually caused when the convergence ICs and associated resistors fail. You can get convergence repair kits for the various Hitachi models from www.tvrepairworld.com the kids contains both ICs and the associated resistors plus the CD with repair instructions.

Hard to diagnose for certain without access to the TV, however, sounds like the optical engine. Part is expensive ($300-$500) on ebay, likely a $800 00 plus repair bill from a service outfit! With the recent lower costs of plasma, LCD and LED it may not be worth repairing. They were great TVs when they came out!

Hitachi and most other brands have service menu's. These service menu's have different pages. Each page is used for a different service function. As in your case you are requiring the convergence display pattern to correct the entire set. There is a access code required to get into the service menu. I would suggest getting the service dvd from Hitachi. Also make sure you replaced convergence IC's and check resistors for value change. Some Hitachi bigscreens have a digital convergence module for electronic convergence.

you need new convergence chips, they are 2 big chips screwed to the big heatsinks on the right of the tv lookin from the back, the part number is stk392-110.they need to be soldered in.

The Light Engine is causing this.

yes the light engine needs replacement.but also check out the bulb.because many a times both get faulty when light engine has problem.

Sorry to say, but if your set is in fact an LCD set, there are no convergence ICs to replace or repair. Please verify the model number and I'll update this with some possibilities.

Is anenvolved job to repair a convergence problem,the way to go about it is to locate the convergence amplifier IC's,one for each color(red green,blue)check for loose conections at the ic's legs,after resoldering all the legs see if an improvement is present if it gets better you will be able to adjust from the custumer controls,but if no improvement the Ic's will have to be replaced.Some units have a separete board were you can adjust convergence after replacing the Ic's and other units you have to access the service menu to be able to do the adjustments but just doing this adjustments can be very challeging even for a train technician,I would suggest you seek assistance from a servicer and get an estimate.
