Top drawer won't latch close

Hello, the top drawer on my Kitchenaid dishwasher doesn't completely close. I can close it, but it is a fraction of an inch open and the dishwasher thinks it's open. The bottom drawer works correctly: when it closes it has a mechanism that draws the drawer in and keeps it closed. However, the top drawer does not do this. When not in use, it keeps on beeping since it thinks the drawer is being opened. When it run it, it stops midcycle with water in the basin. When I push ******* the drawer it will resume draining. When I let go, it will beep and stop.

SOURCE: Kitchenaide dishwasher latch will not

The dishwasher was not properly leveled on installation. I used a carpenter's level
and trued up the problem. The door now stays closed.

However, the latch design is faulty in that it does not ever feel securely latched and that is true of all the Kitchenaides that I tried in the showrooms.

SOURCE: dishwasher door latch

I just had this problem (or should I say, finally had the time to deal with it). Google searches revealed different ways to get the door open including repairmen with crowbars (causing replacement of the entire control assembly $$$), having to back out the top screws that hold the dishwasher in place (and to the top of the counter) with pliers, then moving the dishwasher out from the counter.

Nuts to all that.

First things first. Turn OFF the power to the dishwasher.

I wound up on my back first watching how the handle moved and which side seemed to be loose, in my case the right side was moving freely. After first trying to hold the handle in the "down" position with a springhook (to no avail) I wound up biasing the handle to the right (with a screwdriver inserted on the left side of the handle) while moving the handle in the "operate" direction. Suddenly (and without warning) the entire handle assembly moved to the right and created an opening that made it simple to stick a screwdriver up to operate the latch manually.

Four screws later the control panel was out, the offending broken handle assembly was in my hands to discover that they could have easily made the little tabs the hold the handle in place a whole lot sturdier, but let's not go there...

If I had to do the whole thing again it would have taken me less than 5 minutes to open it up I'm sure. Now to simply order the part and install it when it arrives. The best part is we can still run the dishwasher until it gets here!

Kitchen Aid KUDD03DT top drawer won't stay closed

The lock lever on the unit --- that is shaped like a U --- if you have it ---may be bent a little. You can move it to the correct position - usually down a little --and your door will stay closed

The door won't latch

The most common problem with the door not latching is the top rack not being completely in the back position. Check the rack to make sure that there is nothing jammed and not letting the rack completely close, also make sure that water tube lines up. On most models there is not real adjustments for the door latch.

Dishwasher beeps but won't run

There could be several reasons for the beeping. The dishwasher checks for sensor to make sure it is in good health before it starts. Most likely the drawer close sensor is detecting fault. This is to ensure the drawer is closed fully to avoid water leaks when dishwasher is on. Sometimes sensor itself has failed and has nothing to do with position of drawer. Open top cover carefully to make sure the drawer is travelling ok on the rails. TAKE MAINS POWER CABLE OUT BEFORE WORKING ON DISHWASHER.

Less that 2 yrs old..door wont latch. As a consequence machine won't start.

It is possible the door latch is faulty or the springs at base of dishwasher are soft and need adjusting. the springs keep the door in position. refer this site for parts.

Hood latch won't latch when closing

Raise hood, have some one go pull hood latch and you look at latch and see if it releases,if it doesn't then cable may need replacing,I would'nt completely shut hood cause you may not get back open, also check hood latches bolts and latch for something bent or broken.

How to start kitchenaid dishwasher

1-confirm power make sure breaker is not tripped or fuse is good and no tripped GFI's (no power obviously it won't work) 2-confirm water is on (the timer has a delay that it powers down during it's wait for the unit to fill with water 3-make sure the door is fully closed and latched properly (the door has a safety interlock to prevent the dishwasher from operating while the door is open -- think water sprayed everywhere) 4- beyond this if it is a new install and has never worked call your installer back

Won't run unless i push ******* the drawer

On the right side of each drawer, near the top is an optical sensor (light pipe) that reflects infrared light of the side panel to indicate proper door closure. I f the unit is not aligned/installed properly the sensor will not sense proper door closure.
