Samsung TV will come on, sound comes on for a few seconds and stops. The picture changes sizes 3 times and the unit shuts off

When turned on. The sound comes on for a few seconds then goes off. The picture is good but after 10 to 15 seconds the set clicks and the picture resizes, sound comes back on for a few seconds and goes off again. This runs a cycle 3 to 4 times ant the TV shuts off. The lights on the front are in the STANDBY/HEAT. The Color Wheel, Fan2 and Lamp have all been replaced.

I need further input? What is dmd? I have made sure the problem was not the input mode. Tried VCR, DVD and PC. All have the same results. Have unplugged and reset with at least 3 minutes in the no power mode at all. When plugged into the AC outlet... let stand for at least 1 minute before hitting the power button.

  • Anonymous Apr 11, 2012

The DMD is the metal box with a lot of round holes punched in it that the two cables from the color wheel plug into---it communicates with light engine to and from main chassis---if bad not worth fixing--better to replace entire engine.

One other stupid suggestion--cannot hurt---blow the set clear of all dirt/dust especially the three fans(lamp, dmd fan, and another.

I have checked the flat ribbon cable from the color wheel, it is correctly installed. When I replaced the lamp, the TV worked correctly for a week. Then the picture sizing and cycling started.

Suspect number one is not fan, lamp or Color wheel--optical light engine with dmd is.

  • Anonymous Apr 11, 2012

An after thought= if this started after color wheel was replaced--look at the two cables from it to the DMD---the flat ribbon cable only has contacts on one side and can be inserted backwards........not in most instructions for replacing the wheel.

Contacts on that cable usually face the rear of the set.

SOURCE: Samsung HLP4674W - changed bulb - still no picture - lights flash

If the lamp has been replaced I would think the Lamp ballast would be most likliest followed by the color wheel and then the Digital board. You can get any part needed for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com just leave them a email they respond quickly.

I was watching TV and suddenly the screen went black. No picture, no sound. On/off timer LED on TV started blinking. I could not turn it on (or off) with remote or ON switch on TV. I found that if I...

The television is shutting itself off to protect itself. The blinking light is a code pattern. The specific code determines whether or not you need an LCD Controller Unit, Main Board, power supply or something else. You would need the service manual. There are parts distributors you can get it from and the parts as well. If soldering and tv repair is not something you are entirely familiar you may want to seek a tv repair person. The manufacturer's support may walk you through the service menus to complete a factory reset depending upon the symptoms.

TV turns on and then, after a few seconds, picture changes to "double vision".

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Won't turn on

those tvs will try 3 times before completely shutting down. you can try and take the back off and check CP150 it is a large capactior located near the middle of the board on the left hand side(looking from back) if it looks and feels like the top is vented or puffed out then that could be the problem. if not i suggest having a qualified service tech take a look because there are too many things that could be the root cause.
