Have a LG VX8100 purchased used, worked fine. Purchased charger two days later. Battery charged some but would not fully charge. After a few days the phone wouldnt charge and when I tried to turn it on I received this message "use genuine battery. power off" and it the phone counted down from 10 seconds and shut down. I took the charger back and questioned store salesman to see if it was battery or charger, he politely gave me new charger to see if that was the solution. Tried that charger for 24 hours and same thing happened. So I purchased new battery and put in new battery and I receive the same error message "use genuine battery. power off" The batteries are both genuine and both batteries were checked in another LG VX8100 phone. Is the phone faulty? Are the battery posts faulty? Did the first charger damage the phone? I purchased the phone used from electronic store, will Verizon fix or exchange for me? Heeelp....
I took out the battery on a lg verizon phone oops put it back in now black nothing ?? There must be some sort of way to replace the battery that reinitializes it any help
Not exactly a solution. I tried leaving it off overnight and tried it several times after removing and inserting the batteries. I also cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner and a Q tip. It did not fix it. But I just left it off for 2 days meaning to go to the Verizon store and get it fixed or replaced. But I turned it on now and it fixed itself! Model VX8300. Maybe the contact cleaning did it but it had to dry more. You can use a Q Tip dipped in a cup of water with a teaspoon of Mr.Clean. But then rinse it with a water wet Q tip and then dry it with a paper towel. I used contact cleaner.
Ten minutes after I reported the miraculous fix of my VX8300 from the dreaded "USE GENUINE BATTERY POWER OFF" message it failed again.
Must be a failure mode of the phone.
Could it be a phone virus? After all "USE GENUINE BATTERY" doesn't sound like something the phone manufacturer would put in there. Who knows. I'm going to visit Verizon where I bought it tomorrow.
I got the same message on my LG. Someone said to put the battery in the freezer. I did that and also blow dried the interior of the phone. Once I put the battery back in it charged with no problem. I couldn't believe putting the battery in the freezer really worked!! Give it a try!

My phone did the same thing, and i took it to verizon and pretty much told me to screw myself. I looked online and someone said alcohol bath. I took the battery out put the phone in a bowl of rubbing alcohol for an hour. THen i let it dry by the window for an hour overnight and boom it was fixed. No more problem

LG VX6100, getting same message. Phone worked fine for ~18 months, no hint of trouble, battery holding charge for several days as usual, battery died while on a call this afternoon, plugged in the usual charger, and - nothing. No message "Battery charging" as usual, just the charging light coming on, but getting the nmessage :Use genuine battery. Power off....10, 9, 8, 7...etc. After leaving plugged into charger for a couple hours - usually enough to show successful recharge - nothing. Phone won't come on, nothing.
phone is effin up
