Computer came equipped with Vista Home Basic. TouchPad was set to disable when I installed a mouse. After upgrading to Win7, I no longer have that functionality. I.e., TouchPad stays on with Mouse also installed. With my big hands, I'm constantly bumping the touchpad and moving the cursor unexpectedly. The "hidden icons" part of my toolbar shows a "Synaptics Pointing Device". A Synaptics PS/2 TouchPad is listed, and properties say it is working properly. The "Disable" button is greyed-out, however. Will appreciate suggestions.

SOURCE: must disable touchpad
Is the problem being caused by your palm hitting the surface of the touchpad? This happens with many people. There is a setting for the touchpad which will let you set how sensitive the touchpad is, thereby eliminating your problem.

Try disabling the touch pad in the device manager. If that don't work unplug it from the motherboard. You will have to take the bezel and the keyboard off to unplug the touch pad.
