The reason you smell burning is because the belt is stretched and worn and is slipping. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is the belt you need:

There are two reason you could be smelling a burning smell-
1. The belt is too stretched out and needs to be replaced. This causes it to slip when the vacuum is on and will create that type smell. You can avoid stretching and having to replace the belt to often by releasing the belt after each vacuum.

2. There may be hair or other debris stuck around the rod that the belt is attached to. Can be avoided by checking after vacuuming.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: burned smell

If the motor slowed down this would indicate a bad motor. not cost effective on this model to replace unless under warranty. it is not uncommon these days to see a motor go bad every now and then.

What are the first 4 digits of your serial number? this would be the month and year of mfr. even without a receipt, a warranty service shop should be able to assist you.

SOURCE: i have a hoover mach 5 multi-chamber cyclonic

if its giving off that strong smell then the motor is bad. probably caused by not keeping the filters clean. on any bagless machine one has to clean the entire vacuum after almost every use to keep the unit operating correctly

Smoke and burning rubber smell from hoover wind tunnel mach 7. Hard to push (roller not really turning). I opened everything up and cleaned roller. Now roller seems to turn ok but still have the burning...

This is common. You need to remove the brush roller completely and untangle hair and threads from around the spindle. The roller should turn very freely. Yours isn't and is causing the drive belt to slip and create the smell.

Hoover carpet shampooer is smoking and not working. Is the motor shot?

If it smells like an electrical fire, the motor will need replacement ( part # 43576197, msrp $74.99 ) + labor.
