It says no disc every time you try to play a dvd
Likely a dirty or bad optical pickup that reads the disc before it can play--if a inexpensive unit cheaper to replace than repair unless cleaning helps.

To do a reset:
On the remote control press the SETUP button,
Press the right key on the remote 3 times,
The Preference page will show up,
Press the down arrow five time to highlight
"default", hit right arrow to highlight "reset"
Press enter to reset. Turn off/on machine, etc.

Dust infiltration is a likely culprit. Unplug the unit, open the case. Take a cotton swab and wet it with a small amount of glass cleaner. Gently wipe the laser lens several times without applying pressure, then use the other end to finish cleaning it off and to dry it. Often, so much dust gets inside these units and coats the objective lens it can't see the disc anymore. Give it a try, might work after this operation. I've fixed many CD & DVD players this way. If that doesn't work, take a can of compressed air and blow out dust from inside the laser by pointing the nozzle to the open space between the lens and the lens cover. Hold the can at least three inches away so as not to damage the internal workings of the laser assembly. Several short/sharp bursts of air might dislodge dust that has accumulated inside the laser housing.

There maybe a problem with the optic lens (dirt) try to clean it very gently with cotton, also the motor plate that holds the cd/dvd is not holding it very well so it not rotates at proper speed try to clean the both sides where the hole of the cd/dvd is when it´s inserted, if you think that you migth not have skills for that don´t do it.

After variety of different tests and findings I have resolved this issue. It appears that the DVD burner was not in good working order and the DVD player was not at fault. Thanks you to all who answered and responded to my problem. Many thanks.

dvd player keeps saying no disc when I try to play a dvd.what can i do? worked fine until about 3 months ago. started to say no disc when disc inserted but after opening and closing 3 to 6 times it would read.now it just wont read. any ideas?
