Red light not on. No power
Akai is really Samsung---
Remove and inspect lamp to see if shattered inside--it is a cartridge and very easy to remove.
With it out look where the lamp faces and see if the color wheel pictured here is intact (no pieces missing etc).

I just got this tv free and it will stay on for 15-30 minutes and then turn off. Some times it will stay on all day, though, so its kind of weird. I have the 5499HD

check for popped or raised tops on caps in power supply. also try unplugging set for 5 minutes and resetting it. How about does your color wheel spin up? if your color wheel don't startup then your tv will also shut down. also check all fans they all should be running at turn on. if all fails i would say its your light engine.

On AC power supply board there is 2 thyrisitor poor solder ,I have repair several of these with that problem.

the back cover is not on the TV correctly. on the back cover there is a safety switch so that the lamp light is not exposed. The lamp emits radiation and UV rays. Not healthy.
