The coating on the entire non glass or4 metal exterior has become extremely "sticky" to the point that it leaves black residue on one's hands. It will not wipe off and no liquid cleaner tried changes anything. What can I do?
I wiped them down with acetone and cotton and it worked very well. It took the 'stickyness' off and left a black glossy finish. It's not real smooth but they're no longer sticky and they work great.
Purple Power Degreaser and Cleaner worked for me. Put binoculars vertical on a paper towel, spray them down, leave 10 to 15 minutes, wipe off the sticky junk with paper towels, repeat once or twice. Worked like a charm on my Bushnell 10*25. I wiped it down with alcohol as a final step (for whatever reason?).
I cleaned my Tasco binoculars with Goof-Off and it seemed to work well. It was in horrible shape, with really sticky black goo.. now it feels smooth and clean again. Don't know how long it will last though.

USE ACETONE (FINGERNAIL POLISH REMOVER) PUT IT ON WITH A CLOTH..IT TAKES THE STICKY OFF BUT THE END RESULT ISN'T POLISHED. SO BE EASY WITH THE ACETONE...
SOURCE: The rubber armoring is "melting" or getting all sticky
sounds ike a problem that cant be cured. take them back were you bought them. thats what happens when you buy chinese or japanese [email protected]
SOURCE: case is "sticky" like glue
The same thing happened with my old Praktica Sport Zoom binoculars, and (in my case) found that the sticky coating could be removed by repeated rubbing with paper towels moistened with methylated spirit ("meths"). SAFETY FIRST: If you decide to try this method and have not used meths before, it is a very flammable liquid, and harmful by touch and inhalation, so please wear rubber gloves and do this outdoors or in a well ventilated place and away from sources of heat or fire. That said, it is cheap and readily available from DIY stores, usually in their painting section.
SOURCE: rubber coating on my tasco exp scope has become
Dust with fine Talcum powder, ie baby powder. Distrubute powder over rubber and it will harden up the rubber, let sit and gently rub in. After a couple of minutes dust off excess. repeat if required.
SOURCE: rubber coating has become sticky
try keeping it in a cooler place and the rubber should harden
however I would first check the box to see if it is supposed to be tacky which means it is supposed to be that way
Testimonial: "Thank you. As binoculars have been kept in their box in a drawer in a warm room for years your suggestion of keeping them cooler may well work. "
