Spin and agitate problem

I'm having a problem with the spin and agitate cycles on the washer. When it gets to about 6 minutes left in the agitate, the motor starts cycling on and off, the overhead lights are dimming because of a large current draw and it ultimately throws the breaker to the circuit it's plugged into. It also does this when it's beginning a spin cycle. I used the troubling shooting for the washer, no error codes but this happens when in the "slow agitate" mode check.

The current jogging you described sounds like that could be the problem. The chunka-chunka sound is heard and appears to be cause the the motor switching on and off, or in a different mode, such as mode switching. I noticed on the schematic that the default position for the motor is high. When run in the high mode, there isn't a problem but when switched to low this problem happens. I check for the capacitor, and there isn't any capacitor what so every. I followed the wires all the way back to the circuit board and found nothing. If I were to go with that being the probable cause, could I add the capacitor without replacing the motor? It looks as if GE also put a relay into the system. If I had the wiring diagram, I could easily put this modification in. I've located the relay and capacitor parts. What are your recommendations? Do I need to buy the whole motor kit? If not, where could I find a wiring diagram? Thanks for you help on this! wald

What a great website... I have this smae exact problem.. I do not have the capacitor or the new wiring harness. Will it harm the machine if I run it on high only? Also, I metered the red and re/white lines and it doesn't appear I have 120v during the problem. If there is a part number for the kit that would be great... Keep up the great website!

Wald, a couple of things here, see if they apply to your situations. I have seen the speed selector switch on GE models go bad and send voltage to both, the high and low windings in the motor. This causes the motor to get real loud and but usually kicks out the overload in the motor. Another issue is the current jogging between the high and low windings causing a chunka-chunka-chunka effect. GE put out a motor kit with a new harness and start cap to correct this problem. Open the front panel of your washer by pusing in on the two clips just under the lid and pulling the front panel towards you. You should see the harness with the start capacitor on the right if you have the latest motor. If you are handy with a meter, you can check the white and white/red wire to the motor. If you have a steady 120 volts to the motor during this jogging, replace the motor with the new kit. Catriver..post back.

How do I fix my spin cycle the clothes are still really wet it spins but the clothes are still wet

Hi Russell, Before you check out the link below read how To perform the Master Reset, carefully unplug the washing machine from the power outlet and leave it unplugged for one minute. After one minute is up, plug the washer cord back into the wall. Next, open and close the door of the washing machine 6 times within 12 seconds to send a "reset" signal to all the components. (This is a common fix that many appliance repair mechanics use - it works on about 50% of all washing machines.) Once the reset has been completed set the washer to do a small load with no clothes in the washer. See if the washer goes through with the cycle as normal. If the washer performs correctly, then it has been reset and is fixed. If not refer to more troubleshooting techniques and causes of problems below.
If that did not solve the problem then it may be the "Lid Switch". Top loading washing machines that have a faulty lid switch will not turn the agitator and the spin cycle will not start. However on some washing machine models it will still agitate but not spin. To properly check this you must remove the lid switch.

Frigidaire washer won't agitate

hi Cinebar.
this is what i found from the internet so not sure if this will be off help to you.
There could be several reasons why your Frigidaire washer will not agitate, including problems with the power supply, the wash cycle or the way in which the appliance was loaded. It is a good idea to try to resolve the problem with your washer yourself first since unnecessary repair call-outs can potentially be expensive if your appliance is outside its warranty period. Troubleshooting your Frigidaire washing machine will take about 15 minutes.
Confirm the water shutoff valves are open. If your Frigidaire washer cannot draw water from the pipes, it will not fill or agitate. The shutoff valves are usually located behind the washing machine where the water pipes meet the wall. Allow the washing machine to cool down for 30 minutes. Frigidaire appliances automatically shut off if the motor starts to overheat. The cool-down period lasts for half an hour if the appliance has not been switched off manually.
Verify that the detergent draw is tightly closed. If the dispenser is left open, the washer will not start or agitate its load. Push the draw so it sits flush with the front of the washing machine.
Ensure that the washing machine door is closed. As with the detergent door, the appliance will not start if the door is left slightly open, to prevent water from spilling onto the floor. Push the door closed until it clicks, and try your load again.
Confirm that your Frigidaire dryer is set to a spin cycle. If your dryer is set to a soak cycle or is currently in the soak portion of a longer cycle, it will not spin or agitate the wash. Make sure the appliance is set to a spin load and try again.
Contact Frigidaire if problems continue. You may be entitled to free service if your washing machine is within its warranty period. See Resources for Frigidaire's contact information.

Kenmore 90 series washer

most likely the agitator dogs are bad. if the agitator engages clockwise and free spins counter clockwise they are good, if it slips they are bad. remove the bolt in the center of the agitator, take off cap or dispenser and remove the inner cap first. pull out the agitator, put on the floor, stand on the base of the agitator and pull up on the upper part to separate, take out the dog holder and replace dogs. Most appliance repair shops should have part on hand for about 5-6 dollars. part number 80040-fsp.

Washer agitates for a time then sputters. Does not spin

In sounds to me like you have a motor issue. We have found that on these particuliar models, that the motor tries to run in both speeds at the same time. If you already replaced the control board, then you will have to get a new motor kit. This kit includes directions as well as a new wiring harness and start capacitor. You would have to remove the old motor and rewire the wiring harness (instructions included with the kit) and add the new start capacitor (instructions also included). Job is'nt really that hard to do. Front cover would be all you would need to remove to get to all the parts. Good luck and let me know how it turns out or if you need any additional help. Jim
