"Frequency out of range" when plugged into macbook

I have tried starting the projector first, then turning on the laptop, and have tried the reverse. I've tried two serial cables (though I only have one mini dmi or whatever it is that plugs into the macbook) in both the configurations above. The error message appears only after the macbook is plugged in. Therefore it seems that there is some form of communication between the computer and the peripheral. I have an important show tomorrow. Is anyone out there?

Hi Douglas.
Try going into your display settings and change your screen refresh rate/display. If your screen refresh rate is too high/too low this will cause your issue. Also check your screen resolution. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: "Frequency is out of range"

Most likely your PC or laptop is currently set to a display resolution that is too high for the projector or is one that it cannot handle. Try setting your computer display to 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 and see if you can get the projector to work. If it does, then you can figure out the maximum display resolution you can use. Also consult your projector documentation for supported resolution modes.

I have a SONY VPL-EX4 DATA PROJECTOR that shows FREQUENCY IS OUT OF RANGE. I have been using it on Windows 10 and on different computers desktops and laptops.

this is easy, that OUT OF range means
the PC sending video is sending and illegall higher resolution
than the projector supports (or even less, on this old junk)
the manual on that old projector is clear on that. max.
SONY VPL-EX4 2007, 13 years old now.
and back then projectors STINK !
your manual shows this, and stinks.
what stinks worse is no matrix of legal H./V resolutions shown in the manual. (shows only 1)
so set the PC to 1400 x 1050 and do not use others . ok.
and 60Hz, are you in USA? not stated country.

Macbook recognizes dell projector, but not vice versa

Hello,
Your Macbook should automaticaly find the best resolution, if everything was OK. Is there any HDMI input on the dell projector? What projector is it? Is there is an HDMI input, you can use a HDMI to mini DVI cable: better picture and sound than VGA, and will probably solve your problem

Sanyo Projector==No signal

Hi, Perhaps you can try lowering the screen resolution first of the laptop before plugging in the projector and then the Fn + F8. Thereafter, gradually increase the screen resolution until projector stops displaying. The idea is that your current screen resolution maybe too much for the projector to handle. This of course is assuming that there is no hardware problem with the projector. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
