SOURCE: Finalizing a disc (when plugged in) on a Canon DC210

I think it is a problem with the camera.
We had one, couldn't finalize, exchanged that, and still the same problem.
Canon NO help whatsoever.
Even the mini disc companies that we purchased, NO help either.
We are returning this camera and going with a hard drive.
We were able to plug the camera to a DVD recorder and copy onto a full size disc.

SOURCE: Can't read a DVD-R that was produced by Canon DC210 DVD Camcorder

Canon DC210...To finalize the disk, you first probably want to have the AC adapter plugged in even if your camera does not require it in order to access the finalize menu option, as the process can be quite lengthy and use battery power -wouldn't want to run out in the middle of the operation....THEN....Make sure you are in VIEW mode -not record mode...THEN...Press the FUNC button on the side of the camera -you should then notice the FINALIZE option -among others -navigate to the actual finalize command using the joystick, then press it down and let it work its magic - try not to move it until it is finished. After it is finished -it can be removed and will be recognized by a dvd player, recorder or drive that is compatible with this type of disk in the first place, Apparently, this camcorder records video to the .VRO file type -so be sure any video editor/converter/player software on your computer recognizes this file type.

When I insert a new DVD RW it says can not read disc check disc. The camera will not give me the option to initialize disc either. These are brand new discs that I am using. I can record with older disc...

You have to be sure you bought the correct disks. Look in your manual or your camera. You could use DVD-RW or DVD+RW. They are not universal. You have to use the correct version. You also may want to try a DVD-R or DVD+R. They are cheaper but are not re-recordable. They are not erasable either. A good thing if you don't want to "accidentally" erase your movies!

Dvd to prints

You can either
1. Transfer the still pictures from the camcorder to the PC, and then, either
1.1 use your PC software to print the pictures, or
1.2 use an online photo processing lab to print the pictures for you.
OR
2. Take the disc from the camcorder to a local photo printing shop and ask them to print the pictures you want printed.

But first ...
before you can transfer pictures or video from your Canon DC210 to your PC you need to finalise the disc in the camcorder.

You also need to make sure that the DVD drive on your PC is capable of reading a DVD-R, DVD-R DL or DVD-RW format as these are the only disk formats that the DC210 will handle. Not all PC DVD drives can read these formats.

To finalise the disk you must have the power adapter connected to the camera, plugged into a wall socket and turned on. Then, switch on the camera, put it into playback mode, Press 'Func.', select main menu, select 'disk operations', select 'finalise'. Don't move or shake the camera or switch it off whilst the finalising step is underway - this could cause problems.

Once finalising is complete, take it out of the camcorder and then follow steps 1.1, 1.2 or 2 above.

Good Luck.

Canon DC210 camcorder

The DC210 will only work with with Mini DVD -R or -RW. I had the same problem when the BestBuy salesman sold me +RW Mini DVD with the DC210. I went back to the store and got them changed for +RW and I was then able to use the DC210.
