Pixma 3000 wont print

My printer wont switch off and when i try to print i get a message telling me that the firmware is being up dated and to turn the printer off and on again which i can't do. I have unpluged it and pluged it in again but no joy.
Is this the end of the line for my printer and if so how can i get the ink out as i have just replaced them.I don't think the ink cartridges are to blame as I have printed with them before the fault occured.

My printer will not turn off and the cartridges will not cycle. The computer reconizes new hardware. Please let me know what the fix is.

If you unplug a printer that is performing a firmware update then that ruins the logic board. However you do not say why the update was being performed. had you initiated the update? or did the machine start to do this of its own accord? Anyway its too late now. A new logic board is required and it has to be done by a Canon engineer as his has the software to reload its programming. This is well out of the scope of a user repair. Sorry.

SOURCE: Reset ink level on CANON MP 140 PIXMA PRINTER

How to reset the Canon MP150 after a refill (Step 10 concerns refill; instructions below the steps):
Method1 (Safe Factory Method):
1) Disconnect the printer’s power outlet
2) Press and hold the power button while connecting the power outlet back.
3) While still holding down the power button, press the reset button twice.(red circle with a triangle)
4) Release the power button
The printer takes about 10 seconds to show the number 0.
5) Press + to change the value from 0 to 1.
6) When this value is 1, press colour button; this will light up two leds.
One is for plain paper and the other for photo paper. At this point is feed the printer with paper.
7) Press the power button twice and the printer will print a some stuff (if it doesn't print by itself, then press the "color" button once and the test sheet will print). Don’t worry much about the printed material. I got some stripped lines and some numbers. I believe that my colour cartridge is clogged which is why I got the green strips.
When you print this sheet the value in the display returns to zero.
8 ) Open the printer cover cover (not the scanner cover) and remove the cartridges. With the printer still open, disconnect the power outlet.
9) Close the lid and turn on the printer.
10) Refill cartridges and place them back in their nice little abode in the printer.

SOURCE: refilled ink cartridges on pixma mp490 ...will not print

I know this is frustrating. I am all for recycling and using refilled ink and laser toner cartridges. However, the manufacturers make most of their money from ink and toner sales. So, from time to time, they will encode or datecode cartridge chips. The only times I've been ale to get around this is by using at least one genuine OEM cartridge to trick the printer. If that does not work, try another et of refills, or you will have to use only OEMs.

49 error

49 error means firmware error..

solution:

1. Press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer memory.

2. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on. You can try reprinting the job to see if it was a temporary error.
3. If error persists, try printing a job from a different software application. If the alternate job prints, go back to the first application and try printing a different file. (If the message only appears with a certain software application or certain print job, try upgrading the printer driver and / or firmware.)
4. If the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all cables to the printer that connect it to the network or printer. Turn the printer off and delete the print queue. Then reboot printer AND computer, reconnect cables, and try printing again.

5. Remove all EIO devices from the printer (Jet Direct cards, hard drives, etc.). If 49 errors goes away, turn printer off, re-install EIO devices one at a time, and reboot printer each time to determine which EIO device is failing.

6. If printing still fails with all EIO devices removed, remove all memory DIMMs or third-party DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM-- printer won't function without this installed.) Turn the printer on with DIMMS missing. If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM one at a time, turn printer on, test printer. Replace a DIMM if you determine that it causes the error.

7. Remember to reconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or computer.

8. If the error persists, replace the firmware DIMM.

9. If error persists, replace the formatter.

Printer-printhead replaced but paper is coming out blank

Make sure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. The firmware update for the Lexmark Interpret S405 printer addresses print quality issues. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install Lexmark S400 Series Firmware Update. If more than one download is listed for your model, choose the first download in the list. If it is the wrong firmware level, an error message will tell you which firmware level is correct.
After updating your printer, please run the Deep Clean Printhead one time. From the printer operator panel, press the Setup button > Maintenance > Deep Clean Printhead. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them.
Then try to print your document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

My printer power wont turn on when i press button

Try removing your printer cartridges and then the print head from the printer. If the printer powers up with the print head removed, then the print head is either shorted or clogged. If it's shorted out then you will need a new print head (usually cheaper to just buy a new printer). If you can clean the print head without damaging it, sometimes it will work again. Usaully a good 24 hour soak in alcohol or a cleaning solution will work.

Printer made machine gun noise. will not print.

The print head is stuck - something has jammed it and the noise you are hearing is the carriage for the print head. Open the top and try moving the head by head sideways to see what has jammed it.
